We get another gamechanger movie in 1974, but that will be on the second part of the year, but there's some good ones on this list as well. Vote for your favorite movie from this part of this year, and, as always, explain your choice (if you like), as well as mention any other movies you might have seen on this list, below.

We will also accept Write in Votes (although, please mention it as such) for movies not included on the list I'm getting the choices off of. However, I will not remove any from the list (I can't by that point), so, if you want to make your case why a certain movie isn't a horror film, make it. Hell, you might end up swaying a few voters from going in that direction, but I can't/won't remove it from the list or DQ it.

I haven't seen most of these, I didn't like Black Christmas so Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla has my vote today.

Had to vote for BLACK CHRISTMAS, my favorite Xmas movie Bob Clark made!

BEYOND THE DOOR is also really good, even if it is a blatant rip-off of THE EXORCIST.

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla!

Two hour warning. Black Christmas is winning, but Godzilla Vs. Mecha Godzilla could creep up.

Yeah, Black Christmas has this. It's the one I voted for, as it is a great proto slasher with a great cast/direction. There are some other good ones on this list, though....

Deranged would get my runner up vote. A great little Horror (with some great dark humor, though) film fictionalizing the Ed Gein story (the killer's name is Ezra Cobb, but every other thing about the character is pure Ed Gein).

We get a LOT of Exorcist rip offs this year. I will say Beyond The Door is the best of these. Definitely some fun Euro Horror.

The Ghost Galleon involves The Blind Dead terrorizing by sailing around on a ghost ship, slaughtering anyone that comes aboard. It's good stuff.

Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell is pretty good, but, like Satanic Rites of Dracula, we can kind of tell the end in near for this franchise, at least as it relates to Hammer movies.

Godzilla Vs. Mecha-Godzilla is fun, as is Drive In Massacre. The Bat People is enjoyably bad movie about a bat bite slowly turning the dude that gets bit into a murderous bat creature.


All right then. Time to finish 1974.

I adore kaiju films, but with rare exceptions, they fall more squarely into sci-fi than horror.
