It seems like the go to for most indies is to use a photo of the guy in their prime. Like whenever I see a Harley Race appearance promotes at an indie they use a photo from 1981 or so.
I get that for legends, but for guys still fairly active performers like RVD it seems less understandable too since we’re not expecting the legends to perform. So if you’re just a casual and not a weirdo obsessed with wrestling like me when you go into a show because you saw a 1997 photo of RVD promoting his appearance it can be a bit jarring to see the RVD of today. And RVD is still in fairly good shape! A lot of the wrestlers hyped aren’t.
Even at the cost of misleading fans it still may be preferable. I just saw a BCW poster hyping Ken Shamrock that uses a recent photo and he looks about 200 years old.

I’d rather they use an updated picture. But I know what the majority of them look like now anyway... so I’m not exactly surprised when I see a wrinkled old Ax and Smash come out.

You want to market the guy as people remember seeing them the last time they saw him, not as they look now when most people haven't seen the guy in 20+ years.

Maybe it's just me, but I think RVD looks pretty much the same now as he did 20 years ago.

They'll have no problem with choosing a picture for Greg Valentine, since he never changes.
(Besides having Andrew Anderson attached to his hip)
