Without spoiling plot/pokemons
Is there any cool mechanical/game design leak that could affect my opinion of the game?

Like I really want to save the pokemon for when I play. But I was hoping for some information like,is the "champion tournament" really not just a elite 4 with different favloring?

So it's looking like... {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}We've seen every new Pokemon and the final pre-event count is 81, which puts it at level with SM with them.
Final Pokedex number is indeed 400, besides events. Here's a chart with the names of every Pokemon in Pokedex order, if you want to see whether your favorites were cut or not. {Spoiler}

All of the gym leaders have been revealed for the main storyline. {Spoiler} There are two separate gyms in each version. It also confirms that Chairman Rose is, indeed, the main villain of the story.

One thing that is getting some criticism about the region itself is that... {Spoiler}It's by far the smallest region in terms of variety of locations. Galar only has 12 towns and 11 routes; by comparison the previous smallest region, Alola, has 9 towns and 17 routes. Granted I don't think it's really a dealbreaker? Kind of depends on the actual content more than anything given... {Spoiler}It's not like Kanto's 28 routes are loaded with content or anything. Most of them are just a few feet and have heavily overlapping Pokemon.

I wouldn't call it a dealbreaker {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}I mean look at this, a few of these routes are quite long and the wild area takes up a nice chunk

The postgame also is bare bones, where you'll be reminded of the Looker Saga from X/Y. Essentially (pun not intended, which calls back to the Looker Saga, although I must stress there's no Looker in Sword & Shield as far as I know), there's two royal men with bizarre hairstyles that match the mascot legendaries who chastise you for how you dealt with the Eterantus crisis. Mostly a "this wasn't how the legends foretold it would happen, so we will seek vengeance on you because reasons" deal.

Something that seems like a gigantic step backward this time around is... {Spoiler}A new mechanic called Technical Records.
Essentially while TMs are still infinitely reusable, they've also put those in which function like TMs did pre-Gen 5, and a lot of higher-end moves like Shadow Ball, Baton Pass, and Poison Jab are limited to just those. They can be purchased, but only through points gained from doing raids, and it seems to about even out to one TR worth of points per raid. Really seems like a huge slog, that, especially given I really, really do not care about the raids.

From what I've heard even though Nintendo doesn't advertise they give refunds, they usually do if you ask for it, so that isn't really that huge a deal. The Japanese launch event thing is interesting though. Apparently the Japanese side of the fandom has been especially vicious since the leaks, been a big backlash against Gamefreak and some sources are claiming Gamefreak's morale is very low right now.

Yeah. They really should have probably left this game cook in the oven for like another year. The more info I am seeing about some of the mechanics the more the game sounds to be actually really grindy, which sucks especially with how Thanos Snapped the Dex was. Like I could deal with the Dex demolition if the core game itself was fun, but now I am not so sure that will be the case.

The is something I've been curious about as with all the various back and forth discussion and arguments here in the West; what exactly was the Japanese fanbase going through? Looks pretty heated apparently. Honestly I wonder if Game Freak/Pokemon Company had any PR plans for this or if the sheer scale of the backlash has caught them by surprise. I almost get the sense that this first true Gen 8 game was planned to be fairly basic with more advanced stuff coming later, only for the National Dex controversy to spill over and made what was supposed to be at worst, an unspectacular effort, into the lightning rod for every perceived sin the franchise has had from the last 10 years.

Seems like a large part of the backlash is coming from the fact the National Dex stuff was only mentioned in English and they've been pretty much sidestepping the issue in Japan. Compounding the issue, someone tweeted one of the heads of the company about how much they love Bayleef and can't wait to use them in SwSh and they just retweeted it instead of mentioning that Bayleef was cut. That really pissed people off.
