I mean if the longest reigning ever IC champ doesn’t deserve to go in......
Plus I don’t understand why people judge it against other HoFs like sporting ones etc. I mean wrestling is a pre-determined sport so why wouldn’t you judge it based on who was the most memorable/entertaining

I'm not sure I'm comfortable with a post that contains failing to take the HOF seriously any more but considering Carlito worthy of inclusion in it.
God I f***ing hate that guy.
The WWE Hall of Fame is pretty much exactly as legit as most other Halls of Fame or even the Oscars. They're basically meaningless, and have any kind of prestige simply because you're told that they do.

I think you need to look at this in the spectrum of all professional wrestlers. The WWE only employs 50 - 70 wrestlers at any given time, which is basically two MLB teams or 1 NFL team including practice squad guys. If you broke it down into "all star" teams like "real sports" do then around 30 guys a year in the NBA, 50 guys in the NFL, and 50 guys in the MLB are all stars every year when the rosters get chosen. That means that basically being in the WWE, which is the largest wrestling organization on the planet is like being an All Star. Those guys are all at the top of their profession.
A guy like Honky Tonk Man was over for basically his entire career and absolutely deserves to go into the HoF. He's a memorable character who had a lot of kayfabe success. If you made a list of the top heels of all time how far down the list do you go before you get to Honky? How far do you go in the face list before you get to Koko? I bet it's not as far as you'd think in the grand scheme of everyone who's ever had a professional wrestling match.

I get what the op is saying, but it still means a whole lot to the inductees

It doesn't help that they seem to be running out of people to put in.

It's a celebration of WWF/E history, doesn't take itself in anyway seriously, means a lot to the guys going in, and is full of fun stories from the inductees and presenters.
It would be neat if WWE finally made an official building to celebrate the inductees full of memorabilia or some such, but that's not the point of the yearly show. It's just for one night a year to have fun with nostalgia.

The WWE Hall of Fame has no real prestige to begin with. That said, if your criteria excludes the Honky Tonk Man (arguably the most storied IC champ ever in an era when the IC championship and the midcard actually meant something), then your HOF would probably have like 10 people in it tops. And if inductions were based purely on prestige, Bruno would've been the first ever guy inducted instead of needing to wait decades because he had a big falling out with Vince McMahon.
The WWEHOF is less about prestige and more about nostalgia and appreciating a person's body of work.

At first, I would get excited when they announce someone was being inducted in the Hall of Fame or get mad when someone I want to see get inducted didn't go in. But, now I don't care anymore. It's cool to honor the past and let the wrestlers going in get one last moment in the spotlight and let them thank the fans and whoever they want. I like seeing my heroes get that, but to me, there's no point in stressing about it. It's just 3 hours (or longer) of honoring those that allowed us to become wrestling fans.

It's a nice way for some older guys to relive their careers and get a pat on the back. Inoffensive and ultimately harmless.

It really does annoy me to not have a real hall of fame museum to visit and walk through.

Never thought it had any prestige.
It's just a TV show where they let old rasslers have a last hurrah. In that respect, it's cool.

Right now WWE provides the biggest ceremony possible for inductees. They also have an exhibit at WrestleMania Axxess which showcases memorabilia of Hall of Famers and Legends.
The Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame museum is a corner store down in Witchita Falls, Texas. It's only open four days a week and needs financial aid just to keep afloat. I suspect fans want something more from WWE, otherwise they'd just go to that one or be content with the Axxess exhibits. WWE certainly can't compete financially with the Football, Baseball, and Basketball Hall of Fame facilities. On the other hand, something like the PWHF is obviously not up to the standards of fans nor WWE. Where is the middle ground that won't hurt WWE financially while not being embarrassing to visit? Or is the middle ground what WWE does now?
WON Hall of Fame class of 2011
Kent Walton Steve Williams Curtis Iaukea
WON can get away with a class like that because they don't hold a ceremony and don't have a physical HoF location. If WWE did this, they'd have to cancel the ceremony for lack of ticket sales.
Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame class of 2005.
Orville Brown John Pesek The Destroyer Dick Beyer Jack Brisco Dory Funk Jr George the Animal Steele Dick the Bruiser The Crusher Fuzzy Cupid Penny Banner Paul Boesch Iron Mike Mazurki Ray Thunder Stern
Aside from there being too many inductees, it would still be a struggle to sell this class to modern fans. Not to mention the lack of footage WWE would have to honor these people who barely or in some cases never worked for the company.
I'm not saying WWE's Hall of Fame or the way they select inductees is perfect, because it's not, but I think they get too much flack for the lack of a physical location and perhaps not enough credit for what they do and can provide.

All the Hall of Fame is to me is a) an opportunity to see old names from the past who were memorable in some capacity and b) a promotional opportunity to bring back people to relevance. It's a once-a-year event to honor the past and market a show.
It should have some level of prestige, I agree, but I'm never too bothered about who they choose for the most part. I just don't like the Warrior Award and some of the celebrity inductions that feel kinda like a cheap attempt to get mainstream coverage.

I disagree. It’s easy for us to sit here and say that stuff, but for these guys who lived on the road and risked broken necks every other night, it really is the greatest achievement you can get in wrestling. Being in the Hall of Fame, meaningless as it is to us, must mean a hell of a lot when you’re in the business.

Wait, The Honkytonk Man isn't Hall of Fame worthy? I find the whole "They don't deserve it, they never won that much!" thing tiresome when the wrestlers are told whether they win or lose, but even still can't believe people have issues with Honky going in.

Prichard said that there was a time when Vince gave everyone in the office ballots to cast the votes for the inductees, but he got pissed off that everyone voted for Savage and Dusty so he took them out.
It’s a meaningless celebration to just charge the fans more.
