This weekend, my girlfriend dragged me to the new Tyler Perry film. In fairness, I quite enjoyed it and thought it was pretty funny. It featured David Otunga in a prominent role and I was shocked to see how full the theater was. In fact, every shpwing was completely sold out. I realize that Tyler Perry is a proven box office commodity, but for some reason, I always sleep on that fact. Long story short, David Otunga may soon be in the number 1 movie in the country. Knowing how WWE operates, you know that they want to celebrate that one of their guys is in said movie. I could honestly see them putting the U.S. title on him by next week.

OK... Had to run a few things through my brain...
1. Does David Otunga still work for WWE? He does.
2. When was David Otunga’s last TV match? The Andre Battle Royal at WrestleMania 30, nearly five years ago.
Remember when he was supposed to be the big star coming out of the first NXT group?

I've never heard of Tyler Perry and it amazes me, googling his name, that he was once the highest paid man in entertainment.
Honestly never heard of him, never seen any of his movies listed and, in fact, never even heard of any of his movies.

Even if they could do something with it, by the time it actually happens it's not going to be the #1 movie in America anymore because Captain Marvel is pretty much a lock for all of that. More likely, Vince finds out about Tyler Perry's Madea character and tries to go back to the Shelton Benajmin's mom well again.

Considering they just brought Batista back before Wrestlemania and Avengers: Endgame, I'm going to say that's a hard pass. Unless it's to have Douchetista destroy Otunga.
"Hey, we're both movie stars Big Dave!!!' *Otunga gets thrown through several walls*

I actually forgot all about Captain Marvel, which is really strange considering that I actually have tickets to an advanced screening of it tomorrow. It completely slipped my mind. Lol

If he were to return to the ring, I only have interest in him as a jobber unless he has improved significantly.

Unrelated, but his character and his wife served basically no purpose in that movie. They each confronted a character about his probable cheating, a role that could have been filled by any number of established characters.
And no, I don't see Otunga getting a push out of this movie any more than he got a push out of The Call.

I still don't think they should have pulled him from TV. His role as the coffee mug legal consultant was money.

No. He was married to an Oscar winner/fantistic singer, and they did nothing with him or her

If he gets pushed out of the way so someone can do an announce table spot, it still counts as "a push".

Between his Madea movies, his numerous tv shows, and appearing in movies like Gone Girl, Vice, and Alex Cross. He's also best friends with Oprah. I am honestly surprised you've never even heard his name.

Being honest, Otunga's pretty far from great as a commentator but I'd a lot rather listen to him than, like... Half of the other people WWE has doing it. Top of my head I prefer him over Cole, Saxton, Renee, probably Graves at this point, Mauro, and English.
Also I miss his awesome theme song.

Tyler Perry always sells out theaters. He is a big name, not Otunga.

A push would actually be one of Otunga’s more impressive wrestling moves.

Honestly, if you aren't in America, it's not surprising that you haven't heard of him. His movies are pretty strictly steeped in American culture, issues, and humor, especially African-American culture. I wouldn't imagine them being very successful outside of here.
