With this list, we finish up with the last bit of movies from 1981. Vote for your favorite movie from this part of this year, and, as always, explain your choice (if you like), as well as mention any other movies you might have seen on this list, below.

We will also accept Write in Votes (although, please mention it as such) for movies not included on the list I'm getting the choices off of. However, I will not remove any from the list (I can't by that point), so, if you want to make your case why a certain movie isn't a horror film, make it. Hell, you might end up swaying a few voters from going in that direction, but I can't/won't remove it from the list or DQ it.

Ah so Horror Planet is Inseminoid, still not a great film.

Mystics in Bali I only know from Cinemassacre and it looked awful when James was reviewing it.

I picked Scanners

A little over an hour and a half left for the poll. Scanners is leading, but My Bloody Valentine could sneak up and create a tie at the very least.

MY BLOODY VALENTINE is cool as hell, so I had to give it a vote. SCANNERS rocks as well, but I prefer the slasher of the two.

Also, SCREAM from this year is literally the most boring horror film ever. Avoid that shit at all cost.

We do indeed have a tie! Scanners and My Bloody Valentine are going on to the next round. I'm definitely cool with that. I didn't vote for either, but both are great films. Scanners is a pretty cool further example of David Cronenberg's body horror love done as a sci fi/thriller. The head exploding scene that has long been referenced is but one highlight moment in this movie.

My Bloody Valentine is another great early slasher. Quite brutal for its time.

I went for Tobe Hooper's The Funhouse, which is a fun, yet creepy horror flick about a group of young adults that hide within a carnival funhouse after it closes, and end up witnessing a murder. Of course, the murderer turns out to be a mutated monster person (and the son of the funhouse owner), who chases the group through the funhouse. It's a pretty cool little movie, and my favorite from this list.

The third Omen is decent, and a solid end to the series. The Other Hell was part of a subgenre I like to call "Nunsploitation," where directors had movies where nuns, whether supernaturally driven (like this movie) or not, would do naughty things. This particular movie is OK. Nothing special.

Finally, I want to mention Burial Ground, which....is not a good movie. It would be on the lower end of the Post Dawn of the Dead Italian Zombie pile, but not quite as bad as Hell of the Living Dead or Zombie Lake. I will say that it's damn entertaining, for people that just want a good Italian gut muncher. One of the "highlights" of the movie is the most unconvincing "child" in film history (who spends a good chunk of the movie trying to feel up his mother)....



On that note, time to move on to 1982.
