It was weird.
Heel Summer 2000 Val was the best Val, managed by Trish.
Fell apart when he joined RtC because after a week they forgot Val had been brainwashed to join and made him a happy RtCer.

They had a guy on the roster whose name rhymed with "penis."
Like the Godfather alterations, it was probably being done to address outsider concerns about the nature of wrestling...

In that movie, you actually do find out what happens when you f*** a stranger in the ass. What about when you fight a stranger in the Alps?

AM I THE ONLY ONE HERE WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THE GIMMICKS!? Big Boss Man's speech to Donnie: "With the deepest regrets, and tears that are soaked I'm sorry to hear that our friend finally croaked He lived a full life on his own terms Soon he'll be buried and eaten by worms But if I could have a buddy as stupid as you I'd have wished for a heart attack so I would die too So be brave, and be strong, get your life on track 'Cause the old bastard's DEAD and he ain't never comin' back!"

Seriously, whatever network they were on at the time finally realised they had a guy who's name rhymed with Penis, and told them to change it. Yeah, I figured it was some kind of pseudo-censorship to get the critics off their backs on that particular issue. I’ve always thought they could have spelled the character’s name as “Val Venus,” which would have still carried certain overtones but maybe kept from raising quite as many eyebrows at the outset. But, Attitude Era Russo, and all that.

As a kid, I never realised until my friend pointed it out to me that his name rhymed with Penis and that was the point. I thought it was something to do with the planet,

He should have had a feud with Jesus after the latter lost to Cena.

Billy Gunn was Billy G at one point for some reason. I recently watched a smackdown from fall 2000 and they kept calling Eddie Guerrero Eddie G and this was during the time where he was feuding with “The One”Billy Gunn who they kept calling Billy G its a shame they weren’t a tag team, brothers or atleast distant cousins.

Noted singles because obviously the Headshrinkers had that Steiners match.

I know he's elephant in the room now, but anyhow, there was a PPV match for the IC title in late 2000 (thinking Armageddon) where Billy Gunn lost to Benoit, and the entire match is Benoit outsmarting Gunn while the commentary talks up how its a one sided affair. Even at the time, I thought "Wow, I think I'm watching an actual burial here!"

Easily for Val while its close for Rikishi with his SD match with HHH which was his breakout in that character. That cage match was very smartly done You had a heated rivalry,A 400lbs guy jumping off the cage,2 hot women at ringside 1 of which gets stripped and whipped.I remember back then I’d have large groups of friends at my house and most of them were newer wwf only fans because it was the hot thing and that was the unanimous match of the night for the group cause it didn’t overstay its welcome,it had violence, spectacle and a bit of T&A.
