I wouldn’t call Wrestlemania VIII bad, but I have a much higher opinion of that show than I would if it weren’t for the hilarious commentary. I loved the fact that every match after Flair vs. Savage, Monsoon was tormenting Heenan about Flair's title loss I once typed out, word for word, Heenan’s promo during the Martel and Tatanka match. Wish I could find it here. It’s brilliant.

I think that Jessie and Gorilla made a lot of the filler matches on old PPVs watchable. Wrestlemania 4 I think would be one that would be hard to watch with most any other team. I'm a fan of Wrestlemania 4. Actually, I love it for a few reasons, but one of those is the commentary. Same can be said for Starrcade 90. An average show really but the commentary from Jim Ross and Paul Heyman brings it up a lot. I agree with this, there are a lot of things I like about that WM, it is just very long with a lot of short and average matches. Gorilla and Jessie not only covering the action but they do a great job of playing up the importance of the event, the location and everything going on to break up some of the monotony.

I don't get it. At all. It's kind of a small horse, I mean what am I missing? Am I crazy?

And it was his last PPV with the company, so he easily could've phoned it in. But it was one of the finest performances of his career. It helps to love your job, he only left because he was a dedicated loyal family man. You can tell his heart was never in it during his WCW tenure

Survivor Series 91 is a perfect example. Only 2 good matches, but the bad ones are made watchable by Monsoon and Heenan's commentary. Those two are golden during Hogan/Undertaker. "Boy, my monitor keeps kicking in and out!" "I'm gonna start kicking you in and out!" "What are you doing?" "I'm about to have you taken out of here!"

Maybe not a complete save, but Survivor Series '93. Heenan steals the show absolutely dumping on the Harts. And it was his last PPV with the company, so he easily could've phoned it in. But it was one of the finest performances of his career. Bobby basically had a program going with Monsoon in those final 2-3 months; snide little comments back and forth across shows. There was a "confrontation" at SurSer93 even, as the commentary teams switched places for a match (these were the days when the Radio WWF team was active, and in this case both Vince/Bobby & JR/Monsoon were at ringside). Heenan getting thrown out on RAW the next month was the culmination of that specifically, as well as the whole Bobby/Monsoon relationship from the last 10 years. So Vince and the bookers knew Bobby was still giving it his all. He had good standing over the years he wasn't there (they NEVER dragged him thru the Huckster/Nacho Man/Sceheme Gene mud - plus there's no way they're pissing off Gorilla) because he was a pro who didn't bail, gave a lengthy notice and delivered right up until the very end.

Heenan was the only one of the AWA guys who jumped to Vince who actually gave and worked out a notice, something that the Gagnes always made sure to point out anytime there was a retrospective on that time period.

As bad as WM9 was, Heenan still brought his A-game. (Fans chant USA during the Bret/Yoko match) "Listen to these dumb fans, chanting USA in a match with a Canadian and a Japanese guy"

I would say 3D and Qweedo saved the awful death match bonanza that was "Stranglemania."

I kinda wish Heenan stuck around in the New Generation era just to hear him riff on all the ridiculous gimmicks.
