I know one of his matches got him injured, but how was the Rock able to have a couple real matches with Cena and Punk, while movie studios don’t want Cena wrestling? Was it because of what happened to the Rock? Also what about Batista? How are they letting him do a no holds barred match? Weird to think Cena hasn’t had a real match since the Roman match a few years ago

The Rock did it and than when he got hurt, I think the people that are doing movies with become more cautious and not wanting him to work. Batista the question becomes, he is currently working on a movie? That's the difference I think because I don't think he is currently in production yet. Cena and Rock where.

I think its also partially The Rock being a HUGE star and most studios and the WWE want to keep him happy and are willing to be more accommodating.

Earlier in the Rock's acting career, he wasn't able to wrestle. When he became one of the biggest names in Hollywood, he had got enough clout to do what he wanted...and he went and got himself injured, halted production on a major action movie, and put a ton of peoples' jobs in question (to say nothing of tens of millions of studio dollars).
Unpacking that a bit, it means that when Cena originally called out the Rock for not wrestling anymore, the Rock wasn't contractually allowed to do so.

Batista the question becomes, he is currently working on a movie? That's the difference I think because I don't think he is currently in production yet. The Dune remake that Batista signed on for just started production a week or so ago. Obviously still in pre-production stages, which means it'll be a while before he's in front of a camera, so I guess that explains this WrestleMania match.

Every time I open a thread with a Rock question I always expect it just to say IT DOESN'T MATTER.

I think a lot depends on schedules and also clout in the film business.
I don’t think Cena has the clout, it’s more likely just down to the fact the schedules aren’t allowing for him to work a meaningful program on WWE TV. I wouldn’t be shocked if he turned up at mania.

In 03-04 he wasn’t a huge celebrity so he had more leeway into still wrestling, with the Tooth Fairy mistake they didn’t really care about him at all and he used both wwe and fast five to raise his profile.
Then after delaying Hercules because of an injury, Hollywood told him to stop with the fake fighting.

Can no longer find the web article but remember reading at the time he switched agents, who happened to be his ex-wife.
She encouraged him to be himself, wrestle, put on muscle mass as he was naturally inclined to be big, not lean and not worry about looking or thinking "Hollywood".
The plus side was he got over in the movies. The downside was the aforementioned injury halting production.

And it's against Triple H, one of the safest guys there is, and who in a brawl can still deliver a fantastic match. I'd imagine he'd get to tell them about his opponent, somebody would research him, and see he's safe, so it's not like Batista's in there against somebody reckless.

Kind of makes me wonder if we will ever get that Cena/Joe Match now because of what happened to Tyson Kidd.

The idea of Hollywood execs Googling Triple H to find out how safe he is is very amusing to me.

Once The Rock became a legit A-lister, he was pretty much free to do as he pleased.

"if you let me wrestle, I'll get you tickets to this years wrestlemania" "not falling for that again, first six rows ... no nosebleed seats."
