Wanted to try looking a bit further into the whole ditching the rematch clause thing now that it's been a few months and it's really the biggest, on paper, lasting change to the McMahons taking over.
First off, to be entirely fair here, as best I can tell both NXTs have completely held to this, I couldn't find anything on any rematch for any of its belts that changed hands after this shift in direction. That said, here's a list of everyone who has lost a title since TLC or later (since the rule was instituted the night after) and whether or not they got a rematch without having to do anything to earn it.
Seth Rollins: Yes (triple threat with Ambrose and Lashley) Dean Ambrose: No Bobby Lashley: Yes Finn Balor: No (although this could very easily shift to a yes)
Authors of Pain: No Bobby Roode & Chad Gable: Yes (triple threat with Revival and Black & Ricochet)
Rusev: Yes (versus R-Truth) Shinsuke Nakamura: No R-Truth: Yes (four-way with Samoa Joe, Rey Mysterio, and Andrade)
Becky Lynch: No (had to earn rematch with Asuka)
The Bar: No The Miz & Shane McMahon: Yes
That's 6/12 so thus far they have a 50% going rate in terms of not just handing former champions an automatic rematch like they said they weren't going to do anymore.

For what it's worth the answer on Balor is no, he had to earn it. So guess we'll see on Asuka from here, but for the moment she brings it to a 54% rate of not giving an automatic rematch.

The one thing that interests me is that very few of these "abolished" automatic rematches came in the form of multi-mans, so only 25% of former champions have received rematches that didn't at least serve an opportunity to someone new in the process.

Having to earn the rematch is a neat idea, but has anyone actually failed to earn the rematch? If they get an immediate shot to earn the rematch, is that not just the automatic rematch with extra steps? I love ya Finn but you lost the strap, back of the line, man. Win a Fatal 4 Way like everybody else!

They meant "we're still going to do rematches, but it's no longer part of the established storyline that someone has a "rematch clause" anymore". We wanted it to mean "No booking rematches, period."

Rhea Ripley got a rematch against Toni Storm for the NXT UK Women's Title and that was through intimidating Johnny Saint and Sid Scala.

Not period, but much less often. It is still a major theme of same people getting rematches
