Giants non-tender their best player from last year (Kevin Pillar) and then claim it’s a “Baseball move” and “Not a money move.”
I’ll quote Kevin Owens, ahem...
BULLSHIT

BULLSHIT I can't help but think how much further along in their rebuild the Giants would be if they traded MadBum or Smith last year, or drafted Luka Doncic...

Well some Baseball news besides the ones mentioned
- Jurickson Profar traded to Padres - Sandy Leon traded to Indians - Jonathan Villar traded to Marlins - Yankees to meet with Strausburg and Cole - Rangers met with Rendon - Notable non tenders: Aaron Sanchez (Astros), Cesar Hernandez and Makiel Franco (Phillies), Addison Russell (Cubs)

That stupid ass lucky July sank the Giants rebuild back a total year and cost them some probably quality prospects. You cannot tell me all they would have got back from Smith would have been equivalent to to #80 comp pick. MadBum isn’t what he used to be, but could have snagged something. All because of a fluke July winning streak and a desire to make Bochy’s final year not a total disaster. The only way I accept the Pillar move is if the youngster playing is top prospect Heliot Ramos. If it’s awful Duggar out there (until his annual injury) I’ll want to rip my hair out.

Wheeler going to the Phillies for five years and over 100 million. They must have thought they had no chance at Strausburg $100 Mill for Wheeler is about $10-$15 mill more than I think he is worth BUT they paid a premium to say f*** you Mets

The Phillies also lose a draft pick for this signing so that has to be factored in as well. They paid a lot. Hopefully free agents getting overpaid again is a good sign for baseball labor talks.

Yea, I was about to say thus far we have seen some overpays Hopefully, that means MLB is getting back into shit and not with this stagnation they have been on over the last few years. I'm guessing they hoping this is their kind of Corbin signing like Washington did last year but I didn't think Corbin got overpaid

Apparently, the White Sox were offering Wheeler even more per year, but he wanted to stay in the New York-Philly area because his wife is from New Jersey and he'd rather put down roots here.

Giants about to lose MadBum for nothing, and I continue to hate the new front office.

This could be very good news for Mets fans.
Steve Cohen is going to have an 80% ownership stake in the team after this process is all said and done.
