My Dish contract is about to end and I am strongly considering going to a streaming service like Sling or Hulu live. My biggest priorities are getting regional sports, sports networks in general and DVR. I watch some cable shows, but mostly major networks that should be on most platforms like AMC, Comedy Central and FX. Any recommendations and services to stay away from?

I have YouTubeTV currently and I like it the best of the 3 services I've tried. I do get all my local channels like normal and unlike Sling and HuluLive it has completely unlimited DVR which is great when you havr 5 people saving shows

No clue about sports, but with Hulu and Netflix I get all but one of the weekly shows I watch. I hear Sling is good if you watch sports.
Friend had YouTube TV and it seems like a good deal. Got piles of channels.
Another friend watches lots of sports. So put up an antenna and got a dvr. He seems happy with that. And depending on where you live you can get lots of channels. He lives about an hour from most of the OTR channels and gets 28 channels with the antenna. Hell he gets a few channels that we didn't get and we had Dish with the biggest channel package.
A good source of info is the cord cutters reddit.

If sports is a big priority for you I've been very happy with Youtube TV. Lots of local stuff and all the national stuff. FX, FXX and AMC are on as well but sadly not Comedy Central. That's the only channel I don't get that I miss.

Sling TV user here. I've brought the Blue package which they have two different ones. One that had ESPN sport channels and the other more the Fox side. I went with the Fox and I get the local Fox Sport channel (Midwest) which is for me is what I need for my sports. Since the Cardinals and Blues are mostly Fox Sports Midwest. I also get NBC Sport which a few Blues games have been and the NFL network. I think the ESPN choice you get the NBA network. Between that and my antenna for local, I been set. Sling also has FX, USA, TBS,TNT and a lot of the main channels I wanted from a provider but cheaper. If I wanted to spend a little more I could be all the sports or add on movie channels like HBO and ext. Like Cable once in a while you get trials for the movie channels.

Looking at the channel lineups for all of the services, Sling seems to have everything I want so I will probably start with that one. They have NBC Sports Chicago in my area which carries the Cubs and Blackhawks. YouTube TV seems to have the best sports packages, but not having Comedy Central is a deal breaker for me.

I also plan on getting either Hulu or Netflix streaming services, which would easily fit in my budget with the money I would save by going to a streaming service for live TV.

Most Comedy Central shows pop up on Hulu the day after they air. So that might work for ya.

I have Netflix myself, pro and cons on all of them which why I have thought about changing, on a budget so unsure. Pro for Netflix is they do have a lot of good original shows and docs but the movie selection is really hit or miss as well as TV series. Hulu is great for TV series from what I know. I also have the WWE network, I have to try it on Roku to see how it works compared to ps3 that I have it on. Ps3 been a problem. Roku may work better, I have to test it. I got roku to run Sling which wasn't bad because Sling ran a deal you get it free if you buy 3 months but you have add whatever you want to Roku which is nice.

Honestly, with the combination of Netflix, Amazon Prime, and VRV, I've been pretty much covered for everything I'd want to watch. Sure, there are shows I'm missing out that are available on Hulu, but I'd rather not have my viewing habits interrupted by ads and even their premium tiers still force 1-2 on you each episode.
I was one of the very first Sling users (signed up when they first launched), and it was a mixed bag back then, especially with its Roku app. It would give me 'failed to connect to stream' errors that couldn't be closed all while the stream would play in the background (SLIGHTLY irritating to say the least!).
Everything else beyond those pay services, I get my fix on services like PlutoTV, TubiTV, or just really good YouTube searches (currently going through the entirety of Hajime no Ippo on YouTube).

We are still in the beginning stages of the streaming wars with Disney and Apple+ still yet to arrive.

I was surprised to find out, I can just immediately end my satellite and the billing period ends tomorrow, so I get a little bit of money back. But the one downside is I don't get local channels, so I will need to find out how to hook a DVR to my antenna. But thanks for all of the advice, and if I don't like Sling, the Hulu getting Comedy Central shows the next day is useful.
