The dude has been touted as the biggest NJPW prospect since Okada and he's delivered on that with a very impressive 1 year and a half run that he's shown a lot of growth
Gedo has his weight behind him and at only 26 years old he has a long future. He will most likely be the number 3 guy behind Okada and Naito for the foreseeable future but that's not really a bad role as the lead heel and obviously the number 1 gajin as well

Way higher than a lot of the hate he gets suggests lol.
I'm no super White fan or anything, but he's a victim of a few things right now:
1. He's a natural face. He was getting the crowd hot and was compared to Devitt by Marufuji even as a Young Lion. In a lot of this heel run he hasn't really wrestled naturally, and some of it was just bad heel hijinks.
2. People will naturally compare him to Omega, despite them being totally different. The timing of his reign really doesn't help either, but I view that as mismanagement more than anything else.
3. The current incarnation of Bullet Club's corpse really feels like this shambalic amalgamation of parts that don't quite fit together, so he doesn't really give off a leader vibe.
Ideally he would have had more time, perhaps around the IC title, to flesh out things. I think when he eventually goes face people will remember why NJPW was so high on him to begin with.
Again, I'm not super huge on him or anything but I think he's good, just in a bad spot, and I vastly prefer him being up there as a big foreign talent than Ospreay.

I think your third point is the biggest. Had AEW not happened, he probably would have been the Ace For the Tongans in the BC Civil War, or maybe start his own stable to take over once both sides destroyed each other. But they kinda panic booked(even though I'll take New Japan panic booking over almost everyone else), and this is what we have. It might have been better if we had a long, storied war between Elite and BCOG, with White finally beating Kenny for the title to send BTE on their merry way, but I like what I've seen so far.

I feel Jay winning the title is a bit of a bittersweet situation. The main event needed some new blood, but Jay could have used a little more seasoning. Still, I think Gedo likes to have main event guys rise to the occasion, which can be nice, but it's also a big leap of faith.
I have faith in Gedo's eye for talent, even if I think he sometimes plays the long game too much *cough*NaitoversusOkada*cough*, but he hasn't hitched his cart to any downright losers yet.

He is the IWGP Champion and main eventing a sold out show at MSG. I’d say that is about as high as you can get in NJPW.

The sky. Hes already getting the right kind of heat in Japan and hes getting better in the ring. I think he makes a great irredeemable heel which is almost impossible to make these days

He needs a new finish. I hate the WWE developmental move that is the Bladerunner/Sister Abigail.

He needs a new finish. I hate the WWE developmental move that is the Bladerunner/Sister Abigail. I think he makes it work okay, but definitely could do better. He's got nice suplexes. Something like a Tiger Suplex '85 would be ace. Or a really nasty submission.

I like him a lot (in what little I've seen). I think his character is tremendous.

I think he makes a great irredeemable heel which is almost impossible to make these days As a wrestler he is better as a natural babyface, but he has gotten so much better in the ring in the last year and a half to where he is finally delivering very good matches in his current character. He is a very intelligent wrestler that does so many little things with his moves and movement that matter in his matches. Also, I agree, it's nearly impossible to get heat in wrestling without using "cheap heat", although he does that as well, he does the right things too and still put on good matches without getting face reactions.

Yes, but even if he falls back down the card, his ceiling will still be that he was World Champion, or maybe even become a bigger star than that. A ceiling measures how high someone can go, not how low.

He needs a new finish. I hate the WWE developmental move that is the Bladerunner/Sister Abigail. How dare you disrespect Jay White's childhood hero, Alex Shelley. As for Jay White, he can definitely be half of a Dome show main event.

A ceiling measures how high someone can go, not how low. Yea, ceiling means his peak. He can’t peak higher than he is. He has peaked. Will he stay in the main event? NJPW seem to cycle guys in and out of the IWGP picture. Will he be one of their featured guys for as long as he is in the company? Yea, for sure.

Why is anyone asking what his ceiling is? His ceiling is a top babyface of the company, where he wins a G-1 and main events WK. That is as high as one can get without becoming "the top ace".
