Something I realized a day or two ago - because of the whole rematch clause thing there's never really been a story where someone was cashed in on and then had to actually work to get their chance for revenge. You could easily sustain months out of the new champion ducking the old one and desperately trying to avoid having to fight them head-on, it writes itself.
Really the only case I can think of that's even kind of like this was when Edge cashed in on Taker, but even then Taker was injured and thus didn't get the chance for immediate follow through, he got chances at the belt against Batista before he won it back from Edge (hell, the match Edge won the belt from Batista in also had Taker in it), and that was 12 years ago anyway. ... Dear God that was twelve years ago.
Granted that's assuming they actually DO something with Money in the Bank this year instead of making both cases completely pointless like they did last year.

Who even won the cases last year? I’ve got nothing.

Who even won the cases last year? I’ve got nothing. Braun Strowman and Alexa Bliss. Bliss did the same night cash in, and Braun....announced his cash in for Hell in a Cell like a moron, and the match went to a no contest. I wish I didn't remember that.

Fun trivia.
Edge was a part of every Mania MitB cash in back when it was at mania and for either brand.
2005: won it 2006: speared cena. Allowing mr mitb: rvd the win 2007: won off of kennedy, cashed in 2008: punk cashes in after batista beats down edge 2009: edge lost whc to ieff, who is immediately cashed in on by punk 2010: he beat down jericho (or vice versa?) And Jack swagger cashed in.

I hope Big E wins one of the briefcases with Kofi as the champion. Not really too different, I guess, but it'd be much more interesting than the cash in scenarios of the past.

I would prefer if they just got rid of Money in the Bank all together. Just a super played out and flawed concept. I would say bring back King of the Ring in it's place but every time they've brought that back they've done such an awful job booking it and whoever wins it afterwards (Sheamus, Barrett), so it's probably best they leave that alone.

I enjoyed Alexa's cash-in because it really fit her, and plus I was just glad to see her get the belt back.
Agree though that it's always been garbage and if they want to keep it, it should work like the Rumble where the winner can choose to challenge and have an actual scheduled title match.
