They have a formula that works and they have the fan base to sell out the arenas each time. I noticed how they have been consistent with their format. - Each event is named "Takeover." They don't need a different moniker for each show. It's an NXT special event, and that's all we need. No need to come up with additional titles for the show like WWE does with some of their shows like Great Balls of Fire. With the exception of WarGames in November, they don't need a gimmick for each show either.
- There has been a 5 match card for each show since the start, which gives each competitor ample time to shine. Matches don't feel rushed like Main Roster PPV events, and therefore all of the 5 NXT matches have that big match feel to them. With a limited match card, fans are not bored with filler matches.
- There are only 5 shows a year, which run concurrently with the top 5 Main Roster PPV schedule (WM, SSlam, SSeries, MITB and RR). I am knocking on wood that Takeover shows don't expend to 12 months a year. Maybe a Takeover the night before an International PPV would be nice, but for now, I enjoy the fact that their shows feel like true special events, because they haven't over-saturated the product. It's like wrestling early 90s wrestling when angles got a tremendous amount of TV build time before the blow off matches.

Can't remember the last Takeover that didn't deliver for me. Also, like I said in the live thread, there should be a rule that all Takeovers begin with a tag match.

I also want to add how hot the crowd reactions come across on TV for each Takeover show.

The only con I have for Takeovers is we get a bottle episode for the next week of TV, as kickoff matches are used to fill the following taping schedule. Other than that, the NXT format is the best thing going.

Takeovers aren't just the best thing in wrestling, they're one of the best things in entertainment period, IMO.

I also want to add how hot the crowd reactions come across on TV for each Takeover show. Yeah, the women were sorta in a cool down spot after an awesome Pete Dunne vs. WALTER match, but the crowd was still pretty damn into that as well.

I haven't watched NXT TV in months. The Ciampa/Gargano feud took so many shitty turns that it felt like Vince decided to "help out" with writing the story, and the new crop of talent does nothing for me -- yet I had a blast watching Takeover, as usual. They just get what works, like OP said.
It's great that the show ends in a reasonable amount of time. Every match was good to f***ing outstanding, but if there were five more matches on the card I'd be mostly checked out. Less really is more.

You never, ever bet against a Takeover being anything less than very good. Last night's show f***ing ruled.

I don't know if there's ever been a standard bearer in wrestling as high as NXT is for as long as they've been.

Even when NXT's main event scene was bogged down by Roode/Nakamura/Joe, it still was banging out great shows.

Takeovers are what Wrestlemania need to be like. Not over saturated with matches and select few make the card. That's what the roster should be fighting for is to be on a card with limited space cause personally I do like that everyone gets a spot on the show but Mania should be a show that only the best on the roster through the whole year get to be a part of. That's why you don't see more than 10-20 people on a Takeover show it's cause those 10-20 deserve to be on that card. If you watched Breaking Ground you understand a bit of where I am coming from in my reasoning.

Them being like normal PPV length around 3 hours feels like such a breath of fresh air vs. main roster PPVs which feel like three hundred hours.

Why why why why why don't the main roster deliver like this!? The reactions these guys rightfully get are insane. I love them, NxT is the only reason I'm still sticking around.

Them being like normal PPV length around 3 hours feels like such a breath of fresh air vs. main roster PPVs which feel like three hundred hours. Thats my concern, they seem to be getting longer when a large part of the appeal of Takeovers is that it's all killer no filler. It's not an issue wile the quality remains high but if I felt Dream vs Riddle was a lot longer than required when I enjoyed it (only a minute shorter than Bayley vs Sasha in Brooklyn) then there's potential problems ahead when they're in rebuilding stages. Especially if the future equivalents to Drew or Roode get those epic main events. Still, they've earned trust and goodwill by this point, I'm sure they'll continue to get it right.
