Aside from his match with the best wrestler in the world 2 years ago has AJ Style's had a truly great WM match? Despite the great build up given both these guy's Big Time matches made it certain this was always gonna be a slog.

2nd match is the toughest spot, especially after a World Title one.

I thought it was okay. Not an amazing match and definitely had the first gear and quick second gear problem all his matches have, also I wanted Orton to win.

Honestly, I'm kinda puzzled that folks were expecting anything different from an AJ Styles and Randy Orton match. Like, if you were to simulate that match on a super computer, that's exactly how it'd look. Honestly a lot of my expectations came from their match on SmackDown but then, a lot can change in two years I guess. And that thing that's changed is pretty clearly AJ Styles. Dude is like the most boring man alive right now and went from "impossible to have a bad match with" to "holy shit someone had a good match with him?"

The problem was that they did their WrestleMania match back then, and didn't have anything to follow up with. They did the RKO Outta Nowhere counter tonight that absolutely rocked the world two years ago, and it got no reaction, because it wasn't the climax of the match, and we had already seen it before.

I liked it way more than most of you guys did, I guess. Good storytelling, too. I just love how AJ wrestles, and I wasn't sure who was going to win, which made it fun. I agree they are certainly capable of better, though. I hope this feud continues for another month or two.

AJ isn’t all of a sudden not great, he’s just boring now. He needs to switch it up to jackass goofy heel again.
Boring is worse than bad. If he gets a fresh new hook at any point I’m sure he’ll be back to being great again.

AJ is a WWE babyface - boring as shit. It happens to everyone. Why do you think Randy always wants to be a heel?

As I expected, it looked and felt like a typical Smackdown match. Never was a big Orton fan, though he has his moments. I’d be fine with him stepping away tbh This guy hit the nail on the head, going into the match... I thought it could potentially be the sleeper, show-stealing match of the show, but maybe it's because they've already faced off against each other on multiple occasions on Smackdown or done a majority of the false finish type spots in other matches with each other, it just felt "meh" to me. It seemed like they were both just going through the motions, and Orton has always been one of those wrestlers that if he's not engaged in what he's doing, watching a match of his can be insufferable.

It wasn't bad really, had some decent spots and it didn't take up that much time, but it had that problem WAAAAAAY too many AJ matches anymore do of spending the entire time warming up then ending out of nowhere right as it starts getting good. And honestly AJ looked a bit rough out there. I think his body might be starting to wind down because he was a lot slower and more awkward than usual and it was really noticeable that Orton was the one having to work to keep up the pace and to get the crowd invested. I thought Nakamura and Styles were on their way to an awesome match at mania it was just getting in top gear... then it ended. I think most of us put all the blame on Nakamura but Styles track record this past year is not great. The only great match he's had in my opinion was vs Bryan at TLC. I don't think we should hate or blame the performers at all though. We have to take a step back and realize that some of these guys aren't spry chickens anymore. Styles is 41 with A LOT of mileage on his body, he did some incredibly stupid bumps in TNA that not many people here probably ever saw. Styles also has to work a very athletic high paced style. Also there were reports of Nakamura moving around like an old man in 2013

Gentleman's Three. That's what they are now, so I wasn't completely surprised at the quality.

I thought it was fine. It was not on a great time slot following a title match opener but I enjoyed it. They did not have the benefit of having stakes like a world title or the ability to do crazy stuff like Miz/Shane so I thought it did its job and the finish was neat.

Biggest disappointment of the night for me. I really liked the build for this match and had high hopes that they could pull off a classic. I've never been a huge Aj Styles or Orton fan, but thought they'd bring it for mania.

The crowd turned on this match quickly. They were right. On the other hand, how good were the ‘Mania versions of Owens vs Jericho and Styles vs Jericho? It could be a trend. These grudge matches between big stars, to get them on the card, are only supposed to be average. I don't think fans turned on the match. There were lights obscuring a lot of folks' vision, so they started chanting stuff to get them shut off.

Honestly, I'm kinda puzzled that folks were expecting anything different from an AJ Styles and Randy Orton match. Like, if you were to simulate that match on a super computer, that's exactly how it'd look. Motivated Orton can have great matches with weird opponents. AJ is one of the best in the world if given time to shine. The promos suggested to me that both guys were invested in this to give it some sauce. I thought Orton looked completely unmotivated, and what they ended up having wasn't even a decent Raw-quality match, because these days every episode of NXT and Raw and Smackdown has a 'classic' on it. It was below par for WWE TV. At Wrestlemania. Between two former world champions! I honestly wonder if Orton saw how much time they had and decided not to put effort in until they have better card placement and more time to get heat on it.

Also, why does Orton always get such terrible Mania graphics? First the sperm snake and this year was shit snake.

AJ's been winding down since last year's WrestleMania. He's getting older, it makes sense.
Also, this is what he signed with WWE for. Bigger money and easier matches.

For what it's worth, for at least the first half of this match, the crowd was taken out of it because they turned on these bright ass lights that blinded at least our entire side of the stadium. If you couldn't make out the chants, they were some variation of "Turn the lights off / F*** those lights", or the oh-so-catchy tune "Ohhh please turn the liiiights off"... like, that stuff doesn't usually bother me, but it was literally painful to look at the ring without shielding your eyes. They eventually turned them from a harsh yellow to a less painful red. (They turned them back briefly to the yellow to massive boos, and then they flipped back again, lol.)
In any case, made it very difficult to follow the match, and that was no fault of Styles or Orton. We felt bad for them.
