Knock off the jokes, folks. Show something resembling humanity and sympathy or don't post.

If there's any silver lining to this: this isn't the first time Notre Dame's caught fire. It's happened before a number of times. In fact, the spire that just collapsed was previously destroyed in the French Revolution. They will rebuild, as they have in the past, and have the blueprints and the means to restore it to how it originally looked but with better, more modern materials. And there's no way that the Vatican won't want to restore it, considering it's such an iconic landmark of their faith.
It might take some time, and it's a lot to take in now, but it will be back.

As others have said, not even from a religious standpoint, this is a beautiful and historic structure burning. That's a shame. They just nailed it on CNN, saying that this building means a lot to a lot of people. Especially with Easter coming up. But even for the non religious, this place is iconic.
As for a possible live action Disney movie, I could still see them doing it as a memorial to that awesome structure.

damn seeing that pic of the spire crooked and in flames will definitely be the front page image tomorrow ..... yeah it's all gone and a complete rebuild will need to happen, the flame in the central part is still huge!

Yikes...I did not even take into consideration the fact that Easter is this upcoming Sunday.

Seeing some sources saying the fire's hit the left tower. If true then this is about to get a lot worse.

Seeing some sources saying the fire's hit the left tower. If true then this is about to get a lot worse. Watching a live stream and that seems to have not happened yet. EDIT: I'm seeing some reports about the fire reaching the belltower too. The fire is smaller, but it is unfortunately likely because there is now less cathedral to burn. Here is one live stream www.youtube.com/watch?v=73uhb9DNgtg

From what I hear, everything but the frame is going to be destroyed by this fire.

The spire has gone, but hopefully they'll be able to save the two towers.

Horrible. News said they were trying to save as much as they can but centuries of history are gone forever

No word of any injuries so that is a silver lining at least.
Also (keeping in mind this is a translation of a retweet of a journalist in a very fluid situation)

Don't know if they could save all the artwork since some of it was on the ceiling.

Did hear some of the statues and such weren't on-site due to the renovations.

Just last year Brasil's museum of natural history caught fire and lost everything.
Its a shame when history goes up in flames. At least seem they kept almost everything

That yellow smoke from the collapsing spire looked horrific.

Shit.. I've been inside this building.
That sucks.. I hope they can recover it.
Paris is another one of these cities that just can't seem to catch a break.

Some sources are saying they don't think they're going to be able to save it. Hopefully they can on at least some level.
