First wrestling death I had ever heard of, as he got the tribute graphic before that weeks shows. (The Renegade died before, but was only mentioned in the TV Guide wrestling section afterwards.)
This was before we had the internet, so wrestling news was reliant on Sky Teletext, 12 pages of rolling WWE Teletext news, and on one page, they had a long letter talking up how great Rick Rude was for quiting over the Montreal Screwjob.
Somewhat years later, I came to see him as the great heel and underrated wrestler he was.

I remember finding out when there was the graphic on one of the WWF's weekend shows,
I had a bunch of VHS tapes growing up and always found him entertaining, enjoyed his matches against Ultimate Warrior, I didn't see any of his work in wCw after that until much later, so only really saw him again when he showed up 1997, and when he appeared on Nitro/Raw on the same night is still crazy to me.
I always heard he was training for a comeback when he passed away, always wonder how it would have turned out because he wasn't exactly ancient (40)

What I’d like to have right now, is for all you fat, out of shape FAN-sweathogs to keep the noise down while we pay respect to one of the best in ring talents ever and remember what a true charismatic superstar looks like…

Currently am in the part of World Class on the Network where he started his run there managed by Percy Pringle III (aka the future Paul Bearer). Really awesome how he had the character down pat from the start although he didn't have the "sweathogs" pre-match spiel and the airbrushed tights yet.
It is really awesome. If the WWE had the Memphis territory as well you would be able to see him in his pre-WWF run in all his glory on the Network (since they have WCCW and also the WCW episodes when he was teaming with Manny Fernandez there).

I remember texting my buddy that Will Smith was pulling a Rick Rude when he was on Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel at the same time. Haha.

There's something about wearing an image of your opponent on your ass that's a lost art today.

And according to Bret Hart, the only guy who never cheated on his wife and actually kept his wedding ring on at all times. Pretty ironic considering the gimmick.
Before he died he apparently was talking to Austin, whom he was close to, for a return to the wwe.
And more important than that, because of Vince’s stupidity of only having him on nightly appearances, the only person to appear on raw and nitro at the same time.

Such a great gimmick. I remember watching some his old promos after he died and the way he'd rag on the crowd was f***ing hysterical.

Have to think there would've been an Austin/Rude program. I think that would've drawn for sure.

Watch Steamboat vs. Rude from Superbrawl II. Talk about heat. He was a such a star in WCW.

Insurance company Lloyd of London’s was still paying him for his wrestling injuries. Hahah Rude and Perfect and the rest of Minnesota really took advantage of Lloyd of London’s.

Funny enough, he is one of the few talents who was used much better in WCW than WWF. If not for his injury, I think he could have been the top guy there, both heel and face, for years.
Also, it is a shame that the Dangerous Alliance is not one of the more talked about stables in wrestling history. They were amazing.

What a fantastic heel. If he was healthy during the Attitude Era doing the bad ass suit wearing insurance policy gimmick he would have been a top heel for sure, matches with Hart, Shawn, Austin, Taker, Foley, HHH and more would have been fantastic
