Echoing a lot of others here in saying, absolutely no Lars win. Drew, I could deal with, but here is the list of my preferred winners.
Almas Cesaro Ricochet Rey Black Drew the ladder explodes into 50 pieces and no one wins a dog climbs the ladder, takes the briefcase, and goes running into the night, never to return The ref, swerve Lars, I guess.

What does "known to much of the mainstream audience" even mean? Are we talking about like the average Raw/Smackdown viewer, who has seen all but Lars all over TV for several months at the bare minimum? Or do we mean like, my mom and Jimmy Fallon? I don't think "utilizing the roster in a match that won't be the headline main event of the show" is anywhere near top 20 biggest problems in WWE.

Really sweet lineup, should be a banger. I'd be shocked if Drew didn't win this. I like Drew, so that's not a problem for me, but the obviousness takes some of the fun out of it.
Also.. Are people unaware or just ignoring the fact that Andrade comes out to deafening silence? I'm not placing the blame on him (I rarely blame the wrestlers, creative is as dire as everyone says it is), but it is what it is. I know his situation isn't comparable to Drew's since he hasn't been featured the way Drew has, but him winning this probably would probably be deflating for a lot of non-message board folks.

In story, none of them really deserve a chance to be #1 contender.

In story, none of them really deserve a chance to be #1 contender. I mean, Rey's a former champion, so there's no issue of credibility there, three of the others have been NXT champion, and Ricochet's probably the resident "Shelton Benjamin's going to do some crazy shit" out of the group, though Cesaro's also filling that spot. Lars is the biggest "wait, why" out of this group.

Lars is the biggest "wait, why" out of this group. It’s WWE so the reason is literally “He’s big”.

Lars is the biggest "wait, why" out of this group. It’s WWE so the reason is literally “He’s big”. Which I get, and variety's totally cool by me in these kinds of matches, but Cesaro's got way more power than he does, and Drew's bigger, too, I imagine, so it's still a bit of a head scratcher. Guessing they'll probably have him wreck some guys, before he gets teamed up on and taken out to protect him, if WWE is wanting to push him.

You already know whoever wins the men’s one this year is guaranteed a title reign since the last two winners didn’t amount to shit

This isn't a #1 contender match. Pretty much is. The only difference is the winner getting to pick when they get their title match. Which has mostly been the point of the case from the beginning, though, that it's people who otherwise probably wouldn't be getting title matches. Punk, Miz, Corbin, Edge when he first got it, RVD, Sandow, most of the winners were not A-listers by any stretch when they got it.

I'm fine with anyone winning this except Rey "No Reason To Be A World Champion In 2019" Mysterio and Lars "Member Of The Absurd Fanclub" Sullivan.
Though my preference is Drew McIntyre.

Lars is the biggest "wait, why" out of this group. I mean, I get why they're high on him. He's frightening and pretty good in the ring. There aren't many credible big dudes on SDL either. Yeah, I know, it should be Luke Harper. I'm not going to get into his real life shittiness. It's been thoroughly covered.
