I think it's real telling to how damaging the WWE machine can be to a person and the fans perception of them that so many people in here are saying no or even scoffing at the notion. Dude carried the NXT brand for a time (admittedly when it was less accessible and less watched by WWE's core audience which again I'd say is playing a factor) and multiple promotions prior to his signing to WWE with no issues. Even under his more ridiculous former persona.

The bar of being world champion is nowhere near as high as it used to. I think he'll probably end up world champion in the future but I don't enjoy what he's doing right now. I was a big fan of Sami in NXT and hopefully he can become entertaining again.

Kofi’s the Champ.
Jinder was the Champ.
Anyone can be the Champ.

We all deride Vince for being behind the pop culture curve, but this Sami Zayn angle is him grooming his next vessel before performing the chant to the snake God Damballa the Monday before the Child's Play reboot comes out.
And of course Vince wants his new (?) Young (?) Prime (?) Body to be wwe champion prior to the transfer.
It all culminates in Vince McZayn bringing back his ultimate form during title matches, DooRag Vince. Summerslam is DooRag Vince vs Demon Balor in an every title unification match. Demon Balor goes for the Coup De Grace, Vince merely absorbs Finn into stomach at contact for the win. "IVE INJECTED MYSELF WITH BIGGER ROID NEEDLES THAN YOU, PAL!".
*sigh* bring back A.E. :[
Edit: and of course, like any good host/vessel relationship. Zayn begins converting to 73 yr old Vince over time. Vince must always find a new body. Why do you think Shane's back? Genetic matches prolong the sustainability period.

Can’t believe people have been sour on this heel run. I think he’s been absolutely on fire on the mic. He would make a great chickensh*t heel champ in his current form.
And, also, Meltzer shot down the reports that Zayn’s character was a Vince McMahon creation. Apparently, it was Zayn’s idea.

I dont care who created it, a combat sport athlete bitching & moaning about what the audience thinks does nothing for me. A thousand times more so if it's "you dont like me cause". That's not heel heat, that's "I'm sorry not everyone in the world loves you,but grow up, you insecure needy muscle man in his underwear in front of thousands."

Heels ripping apart the audience is one of the most common themes of wrestling, pretty much forever. I mean CM Punk’s straight edge society character and Bryan’s heel character being the most prominent modern-day examples.

Absolutely, if he were presented the same way he was in NXT. I think he could be great.

A big wordy way to say i don't like when the athletes care if the audience likes them. Punk/dbry being condescending and judgmental is great, zayn crying we don't like him cause reasons.. isnt.

Not at this point. He can work and talk, but he needs more buildup and credibility.

As a babyface fighting champion, yes. In his current heel role, no.

Given how he is apparently happily going along with doing anything Vince tells him to do on TV word for word, you’d have to say he is putting himself in the frame for a title run.

There's a way to be deliberately annoying while still being entertaining but Zayn isn't that, he pours so much effort into being irritating that he's just flat out unwatchable. It was awful when he was teaming with KO and it's even worse with this, "Let's bitch and moan about the fans we're running off with our terrible shows," bullshit.

World titles are so meaningless now that pretty much anyone can hold them.

It was him chastising them for being weak willed and running to nicotine, marijuana etc. A far cry from "ive worked really hard but you fans dont cheer me bc youre dumb and dont know what you want". Ill take an arrogant condescending villain over a needy insecure manchild *shrug*.

Face, yes. This heel run, no. Also, maybe using the Blue Thunder Powerbomb as his finisher, with the Helluva Kick as a secondary, not the other way around. Yeah, I'm not opposed to the idea of a corner boot as a finisher but he's kind of too small to pull it off convincingly, while his Blue Thunder Bomb looks like complete death. Yeah, I thought the Helluva Kick was cool, then I saw Hideo Itami do one on 205 Live and realized Sami's is just alright.
