Metal and Rock works as good anthemic "pump up" music for wrestling shows. While there probably is some hip-hop that also might work, most (not all) modern rap (at least the mainstream stuff), isnt as "hard" (though I did go to an indie show the other night where a babyface team came down to "Hey Ya", so it doesnt HAVE to be hardcore rap), and and using something like Ariana Grande would be just like that edit of Taker coming down to Katy Perry. That's not true at all. Most 808s and melodies actually would be perfect for promoting a WWE ppv. Schoolboy Q, even Post Malone, it actually works ridiculously well and mind you I'm mentioning tracks that have come out these past few months or so. Hey Ya for example isn't the style of today's hip-hop, that's 14 years ago.
As for Ariana Grande, they made Bllie Eilish work so you can't say 7 Rings wouldn't work for advertising a ppv. It's structure is perfect for it.
Lastly, if WWE had any rap tracks they'd ask Wale, New Day (who almost had a track by Wale and Flatbush Zombies) or the Wrestle Rap guy. Given Wale's been on actual WWE programming and they've used a track of his in the past, they know what to do.

Using actual licensed music on TV is a very specific and weird kind of thing. A lot of prominent shows don't do it period, but usually in the ones that do, you see certain sorts of emphasis. TV dramas like to use music to fill more silent parts of episodes, which metal doesn't work well for at all, and there's generally a lot of push to go for stuff either currently big, or stuff that labels have an interest in getting off the ground and putting out in front of people, and neither category right now is reflecting rock, which in the mainstream exists to serve as the score for car commercials right now.

They don't even really use rock on the main shows at least, like every PPV has been that same sounding song with a thump...thump...beat and vaguely motivational lyrics like "I will score the VIIICTORY, VIIIIICTORY" and they're all really boring. I'd take the old rock/metal they used to use because it was at least exciting.

WWE is outdated as hell so yeah. What's outdated about Rock and Metal? Unless you mean the tripe that WWE puts out, in which case, absolutely Nothing specifically about Rock or Metal, but WWE using bands and creating CFO themes that sound like a specific poorly aged subgenre of rock and metal popular acts from 18-20 years ago. Would be like if during the attitude era half the theme songs all sounded like Disco Inferno's.

It is definitely true that the WWE is the only show still trying to associate heavy guitars with being a bad-ass.

One of the best PPV themes was the Taker/Brock SummerSlam that had "Cool For The Summer" by Demi Lovato. Nothing soundtracks a heated rivalry over ending a lengthy undefeated streak quite like a song about an experimental lesbian fling over a summer holiday.

I'm just glad they haven't used any Kid Rock songs lately.

I'm just glad they haven't used any Kid Rock songs lately. And in the end, isn't that what's really important? EDIT: Somewhat related to this thread, but now I'd love to see a WWE hype video about the women's division set to Here Come the Girls by Trombone Shorty.

I've heard imagine dragons and such used on other shows on television so they arent the only ones. I'm fully convinced Imagine Dragons write and create songs with the absolute intent purpose of getting them used in commercials, trailers and the climaxes of SVU episodes.

One of my biggest takeaways from going to the house show in Liverpool recently was how samey a lot of the entrance music is now. There was a time when you could identify a wrestler from the first bars of their entrance music, now I couldn't split most of the roster by the generic stompy tunes they're all given.

I would actually like it if someone like Brock Lesnar would come out to “Thank You, Next”

You wouldn't be the first or last to make that observation. And rock/metal isn't inherently dated at all. Theres lots of amazing stuff out there. The butt-rock and nu-metal that WWE uses absolutely is dated though.

One reason I've always wanted the BBC to produce a wrestling show is that they have a perpetual license with the music industry, so they can use whatever songs they wished.

If I were in a band, I wouldn't want any of my music used by WWE. It turns it into a jingle and ruins the song. Example being "This Fire Burns" by Killswitch. They're one of my favorite bands, but I can't stand that song.

The last Judas Priest album (considered by many to be their best album) has some amazing stuff that would work as wrestling themes or PPV themes:

Can't wait for Triple H to fully take over and everyone on the roster has a rock/metal theme and coming down to the ring in different vehicles No those elaborate entrances are saved for hhh.

Who was it who was using Code Orange for his theme music again? We need more of that and less butt-rock like Papa Roach or Puddle of Mudd or some shit.

I wish they would dig a little more for songs that fit instead of just using really current stuff. Their use of "Ain't No Grave," "For Whom the Bell Tolls," "Cult of Personality," etc. made for some of the most epic entrances in some time.

I’ve said for years they should use Drum & Bass for PPV thems/video packages.
It’s aggressive like rock, fast paced and is much more modern sounding.
