Where would you rank Eddie in terms of importance to the company? Tier 1 would be Austin, Rock, Cena, and Hogan while Tier 2 would be guys like Macho Man, HBK, HHH, Taker ect. Eddie accomplished some great things in his wwe career. He won a title every year he was in the company, became a grand slam champion in both definitions, first ever US champion, and retained the wwe championship at Wrestlemania. While he hasn’t had as many accomplishments as a tier 2 guy listed above, I think he’s as important to the business as a guy like Jericho or HBK since a lot of present day wrestlers are influence by him. I also think that his early death made him a bigger star due to the fact he had a world title match that night and he was only about a year removed from being wwe champion. Even if he didn’t die, they saw more in him than Benoit and he would of had atleast one more title win in him.

Super high as a Latino top guy. They definitely downplay his historical significance though.

If those guys are 1st and 2nd tier I would probably rank him 3rd tier if I’m honest. I loved Eddie but I don’t think he was on the level of those mentioned.
I don’t want to down play him by any means but he was a mid card act in WCW, then in WWE he was a really popular mid card act from 2000-2001, he had about a year and half out and remained a mid card act in 2003, had a very hot run to the top in 2004 but it didn’t last that long and sadly passed away the following year. I don’t feel he had the longevity as some of those on the 1st and 2nd tier

Tier three. Below HBK and Jericho for sure. Those two were main eventers for a long time. Eddie had about one year as a top act.

I don’t feel he had the longevity as some of those on the 1st and 2nd tier I’d say Eddie is a unique situation. Kind of like say the Kurt Cobain of wrestling (or maybe Bradley from Sublime). He passed away right when he was hot

I’d put him in a kind of halfway slot between tier 2 and 3.

All a matter of personal opinion....I personally have him up there with Bruno, Flair, and Bockwinkel as an all-time great.

Eddie's an interesting case due to his status as a Ratings Driver for SD for a significant period of time.
He was super-important to TV Ratings for a few years, but as far as company lore as a whole goes, not quite as much.

Eddie's biggest influence was as a midcarder rather than as a champion. He was one of the guys who made WWF's midcard shit hot for wrestling as well as gimmicks, and he brought that work rate up to the main event with him.

I’d put him in a kind of halfway slot between tier 2 and 3. Yeah, I was gonna say 2.5 when I read the OP.

Might not be what you're looking for but when I think about Eddie's importance to the business I think about the wellness policy and that it's almost certainly saved other people's lives.

Tier 3. Had he lived, he’d be the level of star that Kurt Angle or Chris Jericho is today.
Certainly one of the all time greats, but he’s not a mainstream crossover star. Even if you’re just looking at Latino wrestlers I think Rey Mysterio had then and certainly has now more crossover fame.

Without him there would be no Sasha Banks. Which means Eddie can be held somewhat responsible for the lying on the floor incident which means he is very important.

Without him there might not be a Peyton Royce either, so I'm changing my answer to a super-tier above even the highest tier humanly imaginable.

Taking his whole career into account, I place him in Tier 2. He had a strong career in and out of WWE.

Third tier guy for sure . If not for the alcohol and drug problems , and his untimely death - I do think he had potential to be in second or first tier

Third tier unfortunately, he died just as he was getting another belt and I believe that he would’ve taken Batista to the next level.
I think that if he would’ve lived, he would be remembered kinda like a Mick Foley figure of being a kingmaker and turning guys into superstars.
