Thread for strange/awkward things said on commentary.
Even though I consider him the GOAT, J.R. has a couple, like the infamous "Lita jerking Edge off... the ladder" and "Mark Henry handling the big Johnson."
I remember one time in like 1997, during a Stone Cold match, the announcers are talking about Steve Austin, and out of the blue J.R. says "Austin's a stud." That always made me laugh.
Joey Styles in the WWE version of ECW has a couple morbid ones in hindsight, the one about Mike Awesome for one, then another one I noticed that is awkward in hindsight in Chris Benoit's last ever televised match: Benoit does a spot with Elijah Burke where he does the flying headbutt and Burke puts his knees up and Chris' head collides with it, and Styles goes "that had to scramble Benoit's mind!!" Oof. Of course that whole match is hard to watch now.

“I think Rey Mysterio’s career is alive and well, King.”
- Jim Ross, commenting on Mysterio’s Joker-inspired attire at WrestleMania 25.
“I gotta go with Benoit; I think he has a little more of that killer instinct in him.”
- Jesse Ventura at SuperBrawl 3.
Now of course I know what Jesse meant back in 1993, but it’s hard to hear that line now and not think of, well, you know.

I was watching Survivor Series 2000 and a Regal berates the Florida crowd about the recent election, JR replies “what would he know about Elections?” Considering the first British General Election took place 300 years before that night, I’d say Brits know quite a bit about them.

During some WCW PPV, Tony is on screen setting up what he needs to. Ventura is looking all around at the crowd, not paying attention. Tony finally says “Jesse, we’re on camera”. Ventura goes “Oh”. And pays attention finally.

It is not a call but a strange and rather uncomfortable length of time with Vampiro
When he was on call for the pentagon vs black lotus match....dude sounded like he was lowkey fapping and slowly reaching climax by the final match in the gauntlet match.

“This is a mark out moment...I AM MARKING OUT, BRO!” I never thought this was awkward or weird. The awkward thing would be if he'd tried to force in wrestling slang, but he just sounded genuinely excited, and like he just naturally calls that "marking out." Totally fine.

They would, sure, but given his royalist suckup character with the Duchess match nonsense, I don't think we're supposed to think Regal's that concerned with elected officials versus ones who are born into authority. Which is total gibberish, obviously, but that was probably what they were going for.

It was also before he became Commissioner and had the picture of The Queen in his office. It was only a couple of months since his return to the WWF and he wasn’t fully established in that role yet, although he was already portraying the “Stuffy Brit” character.

One Royal Rumble Jim Ross kept saying "RAH-key-shee" in a really annoying way and he must have said Rikishi's name that way 100 times in 5 minutes.

God love him, but Bobby Heenan's running commentary during the unveiling of "Narcissus" at Royal Rumble '93 is unwatchable.
For one-off bad lines, one of my favorites is from the '89 Rumble when Sherri is doing guest commentary during the Rockin' Robin/Judy Martin match. Gorilla questions her on something and she just blurts out, "Get ah-WAY from ME!"
