It never happened of course but if Savage did a post WCW sale come back like Hogan and co, where would you slot him in and against who?

Imagine if Savage had called the InVasion instead of Heyman.

He couldn't really go anymore at that point. They would have had to put him up against a top in-ring guy like Angle to get passable matches out of him.

Are they gonna play off those silly rumors with him and Stephanie?

I'd love to see him in a match vs Vince, to be honest. Forget the Stephanie rumors, but Savage and Vince were thick and thieves back in the day, and I think it would have been an awesome storyline and match.

I'd want Savage to make a few appearances, maybe have a stint as a GM, and that's about it.
At most, I'd say have a Savage & some young talent vs Vince & Shane at Wrestlemania match where Vince and Shane can die & bleed all over the place and the younger guy can work his butt off to hide how limited Savage was by this point and let the younger talent get some shine by being in there in this match and ideally getting the win after Savage & him do some of their big moves. Depending on when it happened, if around 2001/2002 Jericho could be a good pick and I feel like a joint promo between Savage & Jericho would be insane (in a great way) and Jericho's someone that could avoid being overshadowed by Savage's presence.
Kurt would work too in we're talking 2001/2002.
After that it gets a little harder to pick somebody.
I'd hope and pray to everything Vince would resist the temptation to do Savage vs Hogan.

Savage increasingly lost it after wcw and would only wear trench coats in tna because of his physique. He wouldn’t have wanted to do anything, which is why I assume he didn’t. Commentator maybe.

Savage had nothing left by 2001. Sorry, but I'm glad he didn't show up again to do an angle or work.

Savage didn't have much to offer at that point.
Bonesaw however...

On commentary, as a GM, or a surprise Royal Rumble entrant? Awesome. Maybe even a one-on-one street fight with Vince McMahon, like he did with Hogan at WrestleMania 19, would work.
Deep down, Savage was a perfectionist and didn't want to be seen as "less than" his best, even if his psychology could make up for missing a step. I think that's ultimately why he never had a solid return anywhere. (I barely count the TNA run since it felt more like him dipping his toe in the pool and not liking the temperature.)

A street fight with Vince like the ones Vince had with Flair at Royal Rumble and Hogan at WM XIX would've been entertaining, but other than that, can't think of anything for him as a wrestler. As an authority figure he would've been cool.

After his knees went out in '98 he was never the same. I remember his comeback in '99 when he was juiced to the gills and got a makeover, but he couldn't go in the ring despite looking good.

Yeah, for the people suggesting a singles match with Vince I don't think you guys understand the state Savage was in by this point.
Like, for the match to be anything resembling entertaining you'd need to go full dog and pony show around Savage to hide how limited he was. You'd need something like a tag team street fight. Where everyone else can make up for Savage's very limited work both offensively and defensively at that point. Go rewatch Savage's last appearances in WCW, dude could barely bump anymore on top of barely able to work any offense.
As insane as it is to consider given the worker Savage was in his prime, Flair and Hogan at that point were miles ahead of Savage in terms of the shape their bodies were in and what they were capable of in the ring.

It would have been cool to see (and might have gotten him into the Hall Of Fame while he was still alive), but I'm kind of glad it didn't happen because he did lose a lot of his in-ring skills when his knees went out in 1998. He wasn't the same when he came back in 1999 and was juiced up.
