To me the idea that the Pats think they can win with Jarrett Stidman is some serious arrogance. You don't win skimping on the most important position. The Patriots are a combined 14-6 without Tom Brady since he took over, and those wins were with: - Matt Cassel, who hadn't started a game since he was in high school. - Jimmy Garoppolo, who'd thrown 31 total passes as an understudy to Brady in his first two years as an NFL quarterback. - Jacoby Brissett, who was a rookie and was thrust into action after Garoppolo was injured in his second start. I'd say Bill Belichick knows what he's doing if he sticks with Jarrett Stidham.

Huge loss. One of the best of all time. Also a big part of my Mom's childhood as she watched a lot of football with her father and the 72 Dolphins were big then. Yeah this is a huge one for me. Growing up in Orlando I got into the NFL and Miami Dolphins during the Dan Marino/Don Shula era so Shula was and still is the first person I think of when I think of coaching.

In a weird way, Pats fans might be more insufferable this year then any year they was winning

The Patriots run of dominance is over. It just is. They might do ok with Stidham, hell they might win a division, but them having a stranglehold on the AFC East and going to multiple Superbowls is done. It probably was even with Brady, but it for sure is now. Take nothing away from them, they've had the most sustained run of excellence we've ever seen. But all dynasties end eventually.

Well if anyone can get anything out of him it's them, they have a top flight staff, the DL coach is top of the line and Frank Clark is a good friend of Taco's back to college, if there's any place he can do something it's KC.

But the next two years will go a long way in telling us how long it'll be before they're back atop the mountain. This year's sole purpose is to determine what they have in Jarrett Stidham and whether he's the heir apparent to Tom Brady. If he is, then great, they've got the quarterback of the future already under contract and in uniform. If not, that opens up the question of who will be the next-in-line and how they will proceed to acquire that quarterback: free agency, trade, or the draft. The 2020-21 offseason is hugely important because if Stidham doesn't prove himself they need to figure out their options under center, but also because the team is projected to have $110.3 million in cap space, a sum of money I can't ever recall them having at their disposal under the Belichick era. As I've been saying for a while, I'm fine with the Patriots conceding the next two years to the Ravens and Chiefs if the plan is to have a stranglehold over the conference for the remaining 10 years. But the first part of the plan has to be that they have the signal-caller of the future in place, and that'll all be determined when they figure out what they have in Stidham.

To be fair, the Ravens analogy works because Lamar Jackson has a shelf life because he's a limited passer, but what makes you think Patrick Mahomes won't have that stranglehold for 10 years?

In a day where coaches dont last long in this league unless you're lucky....or Pittsburgh, the fact that Miami had one coach for like 30 years is nothing short of awe-inspiring and shows how great a coach he was.
RIP Don Shula

RIP Don Shula And I think like two losing seasons Yeah I was looking at his record earlier today and he had a few .500 seasons but only two below that, 76 and 88. That even includes the beginning of his head coaching career with the Baltimore Colts before joining the Dolphins.

They're never going to be kings of the mountain to that degree again. They've had an incredible, unprecedented run. But you don't say goodbye to the guy who is either the GOAT or at least among the 2-3 guys you can argue at qb as well as have your team's talent continually dwindle over years and hold onto your dynasty. And Belichick is 68 years old. Retirement is coming sooner than later. It'll be interesting to see what the next iteration of the Patriots is going forward.

Yea, you don't get 20 year runs like that Losing Brady is huge. That's the franchise icon and it is going to take a while to bounce back from that especially with the pressure the next QB will have

New England is likely about to go through some hard times. There's a whole generation of fans there that have no idea what that's like.
The guard is changing the game is being lead by an influx of young QBs and honestly it's Mahomes time right now.

And Belichick is 68 years old. Retirement is coming sooner than later. It'll be interesting to see what the next iteration of the Patriots is going forward. No franchise in NFL history will ever repeat what the Patriots have done over the past 20 years. They've literally had two separate dynasties inside of one dynasty. Over a 19-season run from 2001 through 2019, the Patriots won six Super Bowls, nine conference championships, 17 division championships, 232 regular season games, and 30 playoff games. It's the greatest sustained run in the history of the league and it'll never come close to being replicated. But look closer. From 2001 through 2009, the first dynasty, the Patriots won three Super Bowls, four conference championships, seven division championships, 107 regular season games, and 14 playoff games. Then from 2010 through 2019, when the aging stars from the first dynasty were replaced with the players who would be centerpieces of the second era of the dynasty, the Patriots would go on to win three more Super Bowls, with five more conference championship wins, 10 straight division titles, 125 more regular season victories, and 16 more playoff wins. I'm not expecting a third decade of the greatest run in league history, but there's also nothing wrong with being a consistently-good, playoff-contending franchise, which the Patriots could very well be into the 2020s. Look at a franchise like the Packers in the last decade. They won two-thirds of their regular season games, made it to the playoffs eight times (while missing out twice), and won a Super Bowl. I'd be perfectly content with a decade like that.
