I really enjoyed it. I hated that the timekeeper rang the bell early. With the exception of Riho and Emi Sakura (who trained Riho) who are from the same promotion (Gatoh Move), these are women who don't really work with each other all the time. Yuka Sakazaki has worked with Riho a few times, but may have never wrestled any of the other women. Aja Kong and Hikaru Shida do work with each other a lot, and both have wrestled Emi Sakura and Ryo Mizunami, but it's not like these women are working with each other all the time.
I would love to see all of them back. I'd love to see other relatively unknown women (in the west) like Arisa Nakajima, Takumi Iroha, Sonoko Kato, Hanako Nakamori, and ASUKA (obviously not WWE's Asuka) get some exposure in AEW. Hell, I'd really love to see AEW form a solid relationship with Tokyo Joshi Pro (Yuka Sakazaki's home promotion).

With everything else at DoN, I wanted to show some love to a match that I wasn’t sure what was going to happen with it and the crowd didn’t react much to when it started but man were they hot for it by the end. The personalities shining through, the pure talent being showcased, the range of abilities...in a show with many MOTN, I keep going back to this one as the top. I agree. It was my third favorite match of the night. Like most I'm a Aja, Akira Nogami, Bull Nakano and my favorite Manami Toyota guy, but I loved the match so hard last night. Id love to see a Joshi match every week on TV. Not a "ethnic attraction, lets team them up", but actually storyline wins and losses from a promotion Joshi match every week.

I guess it's going to come down to who is available and what the makeup of the show is going to be. Every week is probably just no feasible with travel costs, but I could definitely see it being a regular thing, hopefully not just for the big shows. If they can get it every few weeks or once a month or something, that'd be pretty awesome, particularly if they mix it up with the regular AEW women and not just each other.

But maybe you have 4 Joshi do a month tour, four TVs or such. Travel is just getting them here and they tour. It helps them in the long run to have TV time on an American show. I think it would finally give Joshi the exposure it's deserved for decades.

They should have Sonny Oono come back and bring them in. Give them a reason as to why different women are coming and going. This idea may also be because I loved Sonny Oono when I was younger

It was a good match but my initial thoughts were that the first trio of Riho/Ryo/Hikaru were not given much in the way of a ring-entrance impression, they need more to be allowed to show more of who they are than their moves. Also, the couple blown spots at the end (Yuka's late save, the timekeeper/music f***up) really took the shine off the endind unfortunately. But it was good and I'd like to see more of them, especially Riho.

Aja Kong was in full Big Daddy/late 80s Andre mode - 'I'm not moving around, you come to me and get hit'. But as I said in the First Impressions thread, if you can make money doing that, then do it. I really liked Ryo Mizunami and Hikaru Shida. They both seem to have star quality. Wasn't as keen on the overly-gimmicked women, but they definitely all seemed very talented, and all had big personalities that they were allowed to show. Hopefully, if these women aren't signed to AEW, the company makes Joshi wrestling a guest slot on their show. I mean, yeah, Aja is physically not what she used to be after a career that spans over three decades and way more just a personality now than necessarily a workrate machine. But I don't think that's really a bad thing, she's adapted well to time and age and when you compare her to a lot of talent that's been going that long she's still exceptionally better than them at this point in their careers. It helped a great deal she had five other ladies in there that are out of this world too. I wasn't criticising her, just recognising that she's in that stage of her career where she's an attraction rather than someone who is going to steal the show. People still paid to see Andre when he could barely walk. People paid to see Big Daddy and he was never any good as an actual wrestler. For a woman to reach that level of fame in wrestling? Pretty cool.

Big fan of joshi too and it was great seeing the girls show what they are capable of on the international stage. Aja Kong is always a treat to watch and Hikaru Shida has tremendous potential. Its a shame Io Shirai is wasting her talents in nxt while Kairi Sane and Asuka are made to look like goofs in a lazily put together team, all three would be able to pull out all the stops in AEW and wrestle other joshi talent on a regular basis.

Shida is signed with AEW, and will be moving to the States later this year. As mentioned, Riho will be appearing a few more times, and will hopefully get a deal out of it.
I see Emi Sakura regularly at Pro Wrestling EVE, she is tremendous, and was here too.

I said this in the original thread, but the way they played it, it seemed to me that the timekeeper's "mistake" was planned, and it was a spot to show off the authority of AEW's refs. Even if it was a mistake, everyone's acting made it a believable, evocative moment, especially for the referee herself.
I think it's obvious what joshi performer I'd like to see in the US, but beyond that, I love that they're casting a wide net and not just getting people from Stardom, as good as it is.

I don't think it was planned for two simple reasons- one, that is a confusing idea covered by the commentary but an absolute trainwreck for the live crowd that screams Russo, and two- they started playing Hikaru Shida's music even though she took the fall, spoiling the actual winner moments later. Easy to miss given how generic all the entrance music was, but yeah. Definite botch for me, which is a shame.

In that case, specific praise goes out to the ref and wrestlers (particularly Kong) who acted the moment really well. And to the director, who got them to zoom in on the ref real dramatically as she held up the two fingers.
