I didnt even know GIFs could copyright strikes. I know this happened with some Twitter accounts posting WWE and NJPW gifs a while back (TDE and that Burning Lariatooo guy, I think), so this unfortunately isn't the first time.

as the self proclaimed King of GIF Style (and an unabashed Elite/AEW mark) yes...this was my reaction too. BUT it looks like Matt's on the case...so, hopefully this won't be an issue moving forward.

Guessing it's a BR thing. I'm sure the AEW guys know you can't take GIFs away from wrestling fans!

Yeah, you not gonna win against the Twitter gif-makers.
Even people within the industry regularly share this stuff as a way to promote their work. How many people even first noticed the folks associated with AEW because of gifs they saw on twitter? More than I think folks like to admit.
It does more good than harm and whoever's taking this stuff down better get with the times soon if they don't want folks to turn on them.

If it’s BR or TNT they’re following the NFL model on this shit. Which is stupid. The NBA, conversely, has this shit figured out. I have every confidence that the Bucks and Cody will get this sorted out.

Man, I can't stand the Bucks as wrestlers, but they seem like stand-up dudes and no mistake.

The corporate side just doesn't understand how big Gifs are to the PR of a company nowadays. Especially with wrestlers. Someone like Marko Stunt got a huge boost in notoriety due to folks sharing Gifs of him on Twitter. So it's just a case of old school practices not adapting to new school culture.

Fun Fact: When WWE came after us years ago about the embedding of online videos that weren't from their official channel, it was heavily threatened that we couldn't have GIFs of their stuff on here either. That part we sort of ignored.

Makes me think of record companies who have their artist's videos removed from Youtube. Like brah, don't you know how these things work now?

That's not good. ROH taking down music MV's from youtube back in the day really affected their growth negatively back in the day.

Yep, it's back-asswards thinking. It's like how NJPW's corporate daddies got guys like Showbuckle and RealNeatPuro's videos down off YouTube or forced them to either go to Vimeo or convert to still images in their video essays...like, dude, Kevin Kelly was just on NJPW World telling people to watch those videos because it gets people deeper into your product and makes them want to watch more, thus making them more likely to pay you money for your product! Don't look a gift horse in the mouth! Unfortunately, a lot of Japanese companies are still well behind on stuff like this when it comes to new media (see: Nintendo's formerly draconian policies toward YouTubers that they've thankfully walked back), and clearly many western media companies don't get it yet, either.
