We move into 2004, which will have Five lists. This is the First. Vote for your favorite movie from this part of this year, and, as always, explain your choice (if you like), as well as mention any other movies you might have seen on this list, below.

We will also accept Write in Votes (although, please mention it as such) for movies not included on the list I'm getting the choices off of. However, I will not remove any from the list (I can't by that point), so, if you want to make your case why a certain movie isn't a horror film, make it. Hell, you might end up swaying a few voters from going in that direction, but I can't/won't remove it from the list or DQ it.

As much as I love horror, the last 15 years or so are sort of a blind spot in my fandom. I mean, I've seen some stuff, but not as much as I have for previous eras.

The two movies I've seen in this poll are BLADE: TRINITY and THE GRUDGE. THE GRUDGE just never grabbed me. BLADE: TRINITY is kinda ridiculous, but I find it entertaining anyway. So I'll vote for it.

I'm going with cube Zero (Sure The Cube is much much better) but this is still decent. Better than Triple H as a vampire at least

A little over two hours left, and The Grudge is winning so far.

Once again, we have a tie, as both The Grudge and Erotic Ghost: Siren will be going on to the next round. I never saw the second movie, but I did the first....in fact, I voted for The Grudge, as it was a very solid remake of the Japanese movie. An amped up remake, but that actually worked in its favor, as it gets to be both scary AND disturbing. Unfortunately, this was kind of the apex of star Sarah Michelle Gellar's career, as this movie hit just a year after Buffy the Vampire slayer ended. Sadly, tis was not meant to be, as she kind of gave up the acting thing for motherhood. Ah well.


Blade Trinity was my runner up, as while it's not as good as the first two movies, it does have its moments, mostly due to Ryan Reynolds, who kind of steals the movie from star Wesley Snipes. In fact, this was the movie that made me realize that Reynolds would make a fantastic Deadpool, as his character is kind of a massive shit talker throughout. He and Jessica Biel are the main reasons to watch this if one hasn't.


Seed of Chucky also has its moments, but it's pretty clear that by this point, the franchise was purely comedies with a body count. There is some decent gore, though, and I did love the Glen or Glenda joke. I Lol'ed in the theater when it dropped....I was the only one who did.
Luckily, the next movie, Curse of Chucky, would nudge things back in the horror direction somewhat.


Ghost Lake and Species III were watchable, but kind of uneventful overall. I will say that Natasha Henstridge is in the movie, but not for long, as she dies in childbirth in the first scene of the movie. The movie follows her (of course) hot daughter as she basically tries to rehash the plots of the first two movies....and gets nekked, of course. Ghost Lake is pretty much about what the title would suggest. It's watchable, but nothing worth going out of your way to see.....same with Species III.


Of course, I saved the worst for last, and that is indeed Zombie Nation, which would go on my Worst Zombie Movies list, as it does indeed blow. A cop who is secretly a serial killer (and we get that he had a bad childhood repeated (the same shots of him getting his bare ass cracked) over and over throughout the film) is stalked by reanimated versions of the women he killed. They're supposed to be zombies, but the director's idea of making this happen is basically applying too much eye shadow and powder on their faces....that's it. This movie was just god awful on any level.....skip it.


OK...onto the next list. BTW, I will be going out of town tomorrow through Saturday, so, the next list won't pop up until early Sunday morning. I'll repeat this announcement on the next poll as well.
