Someone on the Verne/Vince comparison thread claimed that the WWF/E was pretty much a babyface promotion up through the attitude era, but after the reign of terror, it's mainly a company where heels dominate the title scene.Do you agree with this? I will say that we havent really seen an extended world title run for any babyface world champs for a while (I think Cena was the last).

Most recently, AJ Styles was WWE Champion for over a year from 2017 to 2018 and babyface for all of it.

It's definitely a heel territory, no doubt about it. It has been for about the last 5 years I would say probably starting at Summerslam 2014 when almost every heel won (most of which were blowoff matches) concluding with Brock squashing Cena. Heels get booked better, get more title reigns, get longer title reigns, and even win feuds most of the time which is just completely ass backwards in how wrestling storytelling is supposed to be.
Roman (who most fans hate), Styles, and Rollins have really been the only faces who have been booked as guys who can "come through" and win big matches and end feuds. Everyone else are booked liked doofuses and choke artists. I guess things have got a little better lately with non chosen one faces that fans are genuinely behind like Becky and Kofi getting big wins at WrestleMania and getting strong booking but at the same time your just waiting for the other foot to drop just due to their history of screwing good things up.

Feels like it's been more face since WM but I expect that to change closer to Summerslam. Before this year's WM it was heel for a crazy long time. Becky, Kofi, Rollins and even Reigns returning have helped change that.

"All the heels stomped their opponents at stomping ground!" - michael cole, w way too much enthusiasm about the WWE Universe's heroes being stomped.
Edit..on topic. We have 3 popular babyface champs so we need heels lurking in the wings.
Edit: edit 4, Bayley! <3

Ever since Cena started to be phased out as the top guy and perennial champion, so since 2014 or so, I think it's been a huge heel territory.
Heels have dominated, are allowed more mic time, allowed to show more character and tend to win more. Think of their obsession with heat, everything was about building heat and paying that off never seemed to be a big deal. So all the babyfaces just looked useless.
Now I will admit that since Mania 35, they seem to have readdressed this a little, and it's been more babyface friendly. You only have to look at how the vast majority of the Champions at the minute are babyface, how long that will last I don't know though.

I'd say this stuff started around the time HHH kept winning the title all the time. The Rock vs. HHH feud was nightmarish in its impact if you think about it. The Rock was the one guy they could book like crap, job him to anyone, make him look stupid, and he'd stay crazy over. And since the whole McMahon/Helmsley Regime stuff actually drew money the first time they kept going back to it over....and over....and over.
