I think Meltzer expressed some regret over his original negative four star rating for Hogan/Andre because of its historical significance (I think he now considers it a "half star" match, if that means anything).
Botched pinfall attempt aside, Hogan/Andre was an acceptable match that had the crowd hanging on every move. By comparison, Hogan/Sting from Starrcade 97 was much worse, especially the finish.
It certainly isn't as incompetent as JYD/Moondog, Sharmell/Jenna or Shelly/Rebel. And its participants weren't nearly as immobile as the awful CMLL Legends trios match from a few years ago.

If HHH vs Steiner was the Rumble 2003 match, I was there!

I have seen 13 of these damn matches. That is ridiculous. I bet I have seen under half that number of the best matches.

I definitely get Hogan vs Andre being on there. Without the context of the spectacle of Wrestlemania III, it was a terrible wrestling match. It was incredible for spectacle and the visual of Hogan bodyslamming a giant of a man like Andre, but I can see why anyone who judges wrestling as a performance art would think it was absolute shit.
Also, I think the Observer Worst Match awards were voted on by WON subscribers, not singlehandedly decided by Big Daddy Meltzer. So while I don't think he's like, the arbiter of what determines a good match or not (as far as I'm concerned, he's just another fan who has his biases; just one with a big platform), these "winners" aren't his decision either.

The biggest flaw with this award is that it rates matches on the basis of it being a 5 star mat classic ala Flair/Steamboat. Personally, that's not what makes a good match to me. My sole question when determining match quality is, "Did it accomplish what it set out to do?" And you can bet your ass that Hogan/Andre, for example, more than accomplished what was intended. This is why I just can't take Meltzer's match ratings seriously. The guy's criteria is so narrow and so fixated on only one or two types of wrestling and storytelling. I mean ,I get it. He is judging in a more technical bases of "I knew knothing about the match, would it still be a good match?". By all technical and in-ring storytelling means,Andre vs Hogan is not a good match but it was still a really good story and moment.

In all honesty, by storytelling alone, Hogan vs. Andre is a fantastic match. You've got the Champion, Hogan, going against the one guy that can utterly dominate him and has to cling on and claw through every moment to actually have a chance at winning. Story wise, it's superb.

I think I’ve seen all of them except for the Sting vs Tony Palmora match. I might have seen it but don’t remember it because I can’t recall who Tony Palmora is.

Found the Sting one after some digging, mostly because I think the Observer got the guy's name wrong.
Honestly... Yeah, this is crap but it's basically just a better-than-usual Shane McMahon match.

This list just makes Dave seem like a Mark. Wrestling is about storytelling, which exactly what Andre/Hogan did and did well.

I wish I could find the Reverse Battle Royal anywhere. The 2007 one at Bound for Glory is easily available, but the one from 2006 on this list occurred on a random Impact and thus is pretty hard to find.

I'm kind of surprised Hulks and Andre's rematch at Wrestlemania 4 isn't on here. That was even worse than the one at 3
