I will end up seeing this, but odds are for me it will be a massive disappointment because to me The Shining is one of the most definitive horror films ever made
everything about it is perfect in every possible way

Granted, I believe that the movie will have its elements of the Kubrick version on its sleeve throughout but the plot is less psychological horror than the material is led you to believe.

{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}God dang. I don't know if it's that way in the novel but the heels in this are so, so, so WEAK.
A group of ten can gang up to perhaps take down a small child or a random Jacob Tremblay maybe but they get their butts kicked so routinely that they only stop for breaks when they all get killed.
Danny and co. just ride roughshod all over the True Knot. I think the poor suckers get a leg up on our heroes once until that victory is hilariously snatched away too. Then the ghosts of the Overlook show up from psychic box prison just long enough to eat Rebecca Ferguson and have their house burned down.

Watched The Shining right before going to it this morning. Really enjoyed it as a sequel. Very different film, but quite good.

The poster is playing off of the "here's Johnny!" moment from the first movie though. They know what they're doing.

The original novel of The Shining ended that way.

I really enjoyed this. Good acting, and some of the shots and set recreations were great. It's shot beautifully throughout and there are real scenes of tension all through the movie.
And the scene with the baseball kid is the most uneasy I've felt with a movie in a while just in terms of "make it stop!"

is shelley duvall in this movie? it would be kind of nice if they gave her a cameo or something.

It probably could have veered into corny quickly, but the Jack lookalike sounding nothing like him was jarring at first haha.

Looks like the movie's a flop, was projected to do around $25 to $30 million for the weekend, now it's looking like just $12 million.

For a semi-sequel to a flick from almost 40 years ago with a title that your average movie goer might not immediately associate with that in the first place, that's not too shocking. A shame, it's good.

Shame it’s not doing well. I honestly liked it better than the last It movie.

Loved it myself. Would probably be much worse if a lesser actor than Ewan played the lead.

is shelley duvall in this movie? it would be kind of nice if they gave her a cameo or something. Considering she's pretty much retired and Kubrick treated her like absolute shit (even by Kubrick standards), it would've taken a miracle to get her into this movie.

I watched the directors cut tonight and just......this I mean I almost fast forwarded through this scene I was that uncomfortable watching it. That was intense I didn’t have particularly high hopes when I went in, I think I might have heard some reactions to it that weren’t great but I quite enjoyed it (Maybe because it was the directors cut the extra 30 mins improved it?) though I didn’t think the bad guys were gonna take that hard an L lol I mean that was HHH vs Ultimate Warrior levels of getting destroyed And for a 3 hour flick, it passed quite quickly

Had to bump this, because I just got around to watching this. I really liked it. I go into King adaptations with low expectations. Didn’t have anything to worry about, here. Really god performances from the entire cast and it didn’t feel like it’s almost three hour runtime. And, yeah, the baseball boy scene is one of the most disturbing scenes I can remember. One of the better King adaptations, IMO.
