To the people that didn’t like this game...What’s a recent game you enjoyed? I'm not sure what that question's hoping to achieve? There’s no right or wrong answer here, I’m just curious if this is usually the type of game you enjoy.

I still have a long way to go, but I got a good amount of time in today and I think I'm about half way through the game. I'm avoiding all of your spoiler tags still, haha. I love this game, though. And hate it (in a good way). {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}Playing as Abby is tough mentally. That bitch killed Joel. Of course, Naughty Dog makes it so that you actually can't blame her too much (so far).
It's well known in the first game that Joel really isn't the "good" guy. He's just protecting Ellie and doing what he has to do. So yeah...they've done a great job of really presenting a case that there is no good or bad side.
At least...that's what I'm getting so far. I'm sure there will be more to unpack as I go further.
I love stories like this, though. So many emotions for so many different reasons.
Gameplay is still amazing, as well.
I honestly still haven't gathered all my thoughts or else I would sound smarter about all this. But I have so much left that I just...need to finish it, I guess, before I can process it all.

Calm down a bit with some of the comments here please. People are entitled to like or dislike the story and discuss it.

Well into the Abby section of the game now. I will agree that this game has a few issues regarding pacing and the themes can be a little hamfisted at times but if this is what qualifies as a bad game I'd hate to see what the people tearing their hair out over it would think of something genuinely horrible like Life of Black Tiger (and im not saying everyone who dislikes the game is like that but... Well I think the peanut gallery is speaking for itself). I think that's my big issue with the criticism the game has been getting in some circles. Even when there's a genuine point to be made (again the pacing!) It gets blown out to be way worse than it actually is. People need to learn about proportionate response to something. And review-bombing a game doesn't make the game bad, it just makes the concept of relying on customer reviews at all into a total farce. It's like Mass Effect 3. Sure the ending was bad (and it wasn't even THAT bad) but people were acting like it stole their children or something, or that the ending being bad somehow made the whole game bad.

{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}I think too, the ending possibly setting up Abby and Lev for Part III isn't helping for some. I'm not sure I'd be 100% down for Abby taking over as lead, but the ending getting so much grief is a little weird.

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}I think that the 3rd game will have have Ellie and Abby both as playable characters, Lev too probably. At the end of this game (in the title screen) we can see Abby and Lev's boat on the beach so we can assume they made it to the Fireflies. What'll likely happen is that Abby tells the Fireflies that Ellie saved them and then they'll tell Abby and Lev to search for her as the Fireflies will have a doctor who can perform the surgery. Probably a few year timeskip, I don't know, 1-2 year timeskip. They'll find her, Ellie will decide to give herself up for a cure (as the Fireflies will have someone who can do the test) and boom, there we go.
Throughout the game we'll find out that the Fireflies all aren't like Marlene so that'll be the main plot point. Abby and Lev helping Ellie understand that she doesn't need to do this, Ellie and Abby not becoming "friends" but learning to actually communicate with each other because they'll have to liberate the Fireflies. By the end of the game I wouldn't be surprised to find out that they wiped out the bad Fireflies, took over the organization and have now turned it into what it needed to be or at least started a revolt or a major change within it. With Ellie alive, finding a meaning to live, Abby and Lev with the Fireflies, it could work.
But I'm already saying it right now. That Ellie/Abby thing is going to be hard to write. It's easier to get people to root for Abby compared to somehow making it to where Ellie and Abby have a conversation with each other. That's going to be the ultimate task for Druckmann.

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}If Lev is playable in 3, would that make him the first trans playable character? That would be a huge deal, though not looking forward to the response from some corners of the net

The ones that I know just by looking at names are Poison from Final Fight/Street Fighter and unbeknownst to me until just now Madeline from Celeste. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_games_with_LGBT_charactersBut Lev being playable in the third one would probably be the biggest most visable one for sure. I can't recall another in that huge of a role.

So people are harassing Laura Bailey due to not liking her character. Because people are assholes.

Lovely gameplay, albeit no advancement on the first one. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}The whole game hinges on the extended Abby secton garnering sympathy for her. Completely failed for me. Didn't give a toss about any of those characters. And Joel getting a dose of stupid (hi person I just met, here are all my details). And as a microbiologist, I nearly put an eye out when they were talking about getting a vaccine from a fungus. Also, it seemed as if we missed a game out somewhere. So, for me the plot completly missed the mark and so the game failed. I trust that is enough of an essay on why I thought the game was not enjoyable.

You really shouldn't be on the internet if you can't separate reality from fiction. Like, that should be the first litmus test.

Ditto to the actors and actresses of the new Star Wars and to Kathleen Kennedy. A lot of youtubers that spout hatred and conspiracies are a one of the minor causes of this

I was unsure how I'd feel about the semi-open world. That can suck if its just to pad the game with nothing to discover.
But, if you can unlock more awesome scenes like Ellie's guitar song by exploring non-mission places, then I am for it.
That was a lovely scene that made going out of my way worthwhile

Question -- do I have to complete all of an area before proceeding with the mission, or do I gey a chance later.
Like, I'm in the first bit of Seattle about to go to hotel. Can I explore tge rest of that district after doing the hotel? Or is it best to clear the area before doing the main story mission?

I'm about 20 hours in. Gameplay is fantastic, though I do wish they'd have either gone fully open-world or totally linear instead of half-assing elements from both approaches (one open-world section and linear otherwise, but entire skill-trees are hidden behind easily missable items). Story-wise...it's a well-told, brilliantly-acted story that is pretty much exactly what I didn't want a follow-up to Last of Us 1 to be. I don't expect my zombie media to be uplifting, but if I wanted to get invested in characters only for them to repeatedly make terrible decisions and get brutalized both physically and mentally, I would've kept watching The Walking Dead after Season 7.

The museum section was great. Gave me a Left Behind feel, Ellie just having fun.
I love moments like tjat, they're what make TLOU so good

These people are nuts. They clearly can't distinguish reality from fiction.
