On the other side of the coin, RDR2 gave you an amazing ending on both of it's parts. Sad but it was masterfully done. That's an ending.

If you want a good “misery” type movie watch I Saw The Devil Everything from the beginning to ending is perfect and the MC does almost the same shit Ellie did but when that ending hits, it hits hard

It'll be good seeing someone do what they should have done with Ellie, better.

Spoiler warning for this 18 month old game ahead.
So, I just beat the game, and while it was a bit longer in parts than I would have liked, I thought the ending was perfect for the story they were trying to tell.
I'm of the belief that the Firefly's cure most likely WOULD have worked. The evidence fleshed out from the dialogue and the medical background given to the Fireflies and their medical team points toward the cure would have come from Ellie's sacrifice and it wasn't just a abrupt desperation that the first game portrayed it as.
I'm also completely fine with killed Joel early on. Outside the community that Joel is in, who we follow, he's a villain in the outside greater world. He disrupted science and humanity for wholly selfish reasons and is not only unrepentant, but still doesn't grasp what he's done. Additionally, while he's tried to move on from his past and change, it doesn't fully resolve him from his actions.
The core of the game is about how revenge is ultimately a hollow pursuit that does more harm than good. Ellie on the farm had a happy life but foolishly thought revenge would be a way to stop the PTSD and ultimately it cost her everything she had in her life, including her ability to play guitar - her last real deep connection to Joel. She caved to Tommy's bullshit (in stark contrast to his brother who tried to move on with his life and he couldn't to the point where he lost his own wife) and it took her remembering how wrong Joel was for being unrepentant in their final meeting for her to accept that she was in the wrong and let Abby and Lev go.
It's an absolutely brutal pill to swallow, but for the story they were telling it's the ending it had to have. Just like how Joel absolutely needed to die.
I think the Dina-Jesse dynamic really helped in this as well, with Dina not wanting revenge for Jesse's death so (granted we all progress grief and loss differently) it showed a strong contrast with her willingness to move on and Ellie's stubbornness.
The story also showed the liberation in breaking from these rigid systemic societal pressures. Lev's mom is so obsessive over her tradition that she attempts to kill her own son despite he son doing his best to help her understand, including risking his life (initially refusing to accept how stuck in her ways his mother was) and getting his sister killed in the process. Tommy loses most of his body and his family by obsessing over some order of revenge. Owen gets Mel killed by first pressuring her into them staying in a relationship they really shouldn't be in, then cheating on her with Abby and trying to gaslight Mel into thinking Abby had done so much *for her*.
The whole game is a critique of control from external pressures - be them organized religion, an ideology or a fleeting sense of justice that *has* to happen. It also shows the damning extreme ripple effects than can happen from an individual not properly letting go of their past.
It's a great, powerful story, but I can totally get the disappointment if maybe that kind of story isn't what people wanted out of a video game. On that level, I think The Last Of Us Part 2 suffers from both repetition and brevity issues. I loved the sudden very-different part of the game like the Rat King fight, the flashback sniper stuff Joel and young Ellie, and ESPECIALLY the "Lucky & Wild" passenger shooting while the other drives - but we then really only get any of those once and they're super brief. This less-is-more approach would be fine if the other side of the spectrum didn't give us sooooooooooooooooo many balancing exercises. Additionally, for as cool and the sky-tunnels and the island at the end looked aesthetically, we really didn't get that much to do there which was that different from the rest of the game. I have no idea how it would have worked storyline wise, but getting to stealth shoot someone in the sky or having something that would make for a greater different between the terrain of the island and the Seattle suburbs would have made it feel like more of the epic quest it seemed they were going for.
My biggest issue with the game is The Rattlers. I'm a "Read every collectible" type player, and even then I think these were by far the least-fleshed out characters in the story. It reminded me of the addition of nazis in the last season of Breaking Bad, where so much of the appeal of the story is on the individual determining where their own morality falls and a willingness of the creators to leave judgments of the character open to interpretation - to suddenly we have a bunch of cruel slave-masters (or in BB's case, Nazis) that everyone easily comes to the conclusion to root against. Even aesthetically in the layout, why would they have clickers chained in the front in the open? A group of trappers who could successfully run a slavery ring wouldn't have the understanding to see that as a massively dangerous liability that served no real purpose? Even if they were guard animals, then why chained when they can't otherwise be controlled?
Overall, I liked it, and I think the main menu being the boat on the beach shows that Abby and Lev escaped to successfully meet up with the Fireflies. It's a glimpse of hope and happiness. Abby grew as a character and tried to be the guardian who broke from these elements of control and helped another reach that same level.
The game had characters change and grow in logical ways that, while heartbreaking, made logical sense and for the story they were telling were ultimately satisfying. That said, it's just a gut punch that as much as I loved it I can't see myself playing it again for any reason other than trophy hunting, and even then I won't be touching it for a while.

I recently gave it another run with New Game Plus and the Infinite Ammo. Incredibly satisfying.

I know they had it on Amazon Prime like last month Choi Min-Sik is one of my favorite actors. If he's in something, it's probably pretty good (or at least, he'll be good in it).

Chazraps stated quite eloquently why this game is art, and I’ll concede that it always will be a masterpiece in the video game world.
But great art isn’t always uplifting, and it can be so strenuous that you have no intention of ever revisiting.
How many people watch Schindler’s List more than once?
Playing TLOUII was definitely emotionally stimulating but I didn’t have fun doing it, and frankly will never do it again nor recommend it if someone asks me if I know of any good games to play

I just can't see myself playing this game for "fun" again It is too draining This. It's a game where I'll only play again if I'm playing for someone who's never seen it, like if I'm playing for their reaction or it's something that I will watch people play it for the first time. It's less about my enjoyment of the actual game but more so the reaction to those who experience it for the first time. I have no interest playing it for fun, relaxation or alone. Now...Red Dead 2? I'm thinking about replaying it this year. That game had some slight issues but as a whole I felt fulfilled.

This is the second best PS4 game I've played behind RDR 2.

I’d assume it’s Part 3. With how long games take to make if they don’t want to leave the show hanging indefinitely they probably should start it now.

www.ign.com/articles/the-last-of-us-season-1-preorder-blu-ray-4k-ultra-hdThe first season of HBO's The Last of Us adaptation is getting a Blu-ray release in the summer. Those in the UK can already preorder The Last of Us Season 1, with the full release coming on July 17, 2023. It will be available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD, and there's also a unique 4K UHD Steelbook edition up for grabs as well. In terms of pricing, the 4K version will be $50/ £40, while the Blu-ray will be $45/ £30, and the DVD will be $40/ £25. At the time of writing, preorders are only available on Amazon UK. Moreover, there is currently no news on whether the Steelbook with be available in the US as well. For even more updates on the preorders, make sure to follow our Deals team @igndeals / @ignukdeals on Twitter. The 4K edition might be of particular interest to those in the UK, of whom many were restricted to Sky's streaming service Now which has a max 1080p limit. Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann has also confirmed that the studio has chosen what its next game will be. However, he didn’t reveal whether it was The Last of Us Part 3 or a completely different IP. For now, fans can look forward to the upcoming multiplayer game, as well as the upcoming PC release of The Last of Us Part 1, which is set to launch on March 28. Yay, I was hoping it would. Fingers crossed we get some of the cut stuff from epi 3
