He forced their hand because they never put anything around him because they're incompetent. Him leaving and them not wanting to try to max KD is the cause and the effect. It's not the next domino falling, it's a cycle. Not at all. He left because he didn't like the way he was treated personally. Since the shit with Phil trying to trade him, he had a bad vibe with them. He was upset they wanted him to sit out the year once Feb came around (which the Mavs made him do to) so they can improve their odds on a draft pick, sign a player and give KP the max. He said no and he is going to rehab in Spain and leave the team unless they trade him. Add on the rape case they knew about since Dec and they decided to wash their hands with him KP being traded and not giving KD the max has no correlation whatsoeverΒ You realize that two of those things are things that the team had control of, right? If the FO tells Phil that KP is untouchable, like MOST FO would, it doesn't get that far. If they listened to their star, they wouldn't have dictated that he's sitting out. The NBA is a players' league. If LeBron can get Tristan and JR ridiculous money, KP can at least call his own shutdown.

2 years, 13 million. Thatβs a GREAT contract, fits an exact need the Spurs had. I love this. How much cap space the Spurs have left right now? Almost nothing, like 3 million or something. Just part of the MLE. I think weβre done unless they make a trade.

Problem was that Phil WAS the Front Office. Only one above him in the Knicks hierarchy was James Dolan and by the time he finally fired him, it was too little, too late. He poisoned the well with KP so much that the relationship was completely unsalvageable. And it didn't help that Porzingis' dumbass brother was in his ear the entire time and quite frankly, KP was coming off like a diva.
Now he's Dallas' headache. I wouldn't be surprised if the relationship between the two sours down the line.

Phil controlled the whole shit and when he was fired they went into damage control with him but it was too late. The new FO told KP their plans and how this team is going to be built around him but he didn't want that. He obviously listened to reason in Dallas when they told him they were shutting him down, he just didn't want to be with the Knicks PERIOD!!!! He wanted out and he got out KP was a RFA and he couldn't go anywhere. He told the Knicks when they offer him the one year tag he would take that so he could be a FA the next season, he didn't care about them offering the max he wanted to test himself and be a FA. That shit was not salvageable

KP had feeling some type of way since they traded Melo Once the report came out Phil was shopping KP, people were begging Dolan to fire him

Best thing he did was draft KP but legit Phil seemed to think doing his Zen stuff has a GM would work. It just pissed the players off. Now I do think the Knicks have a solid front office in place for the first time in a long time

His regime was a f***ing waste Gives Melo that big stupid money with a no trade clause His saving grace was drafting KP but then he negated that by trying to trade him Drafted Frank Ntilikina when Dennis Smith Jr was still on the board and the popular pick Giving Tim Hardaway Jr and Joahkim Noah horrible contracts Derek Fisher being his puppet coach, Kurt Rambis being his stooge and Hornacek not fitting at all

Fisher is apparently doing a good job with the Sparks in the WNBA and probably could've become a good NBA head coach if given the time and autonomy to develop his philosophy. But Phil Jackson just couldn't help himself backseat coaching with the f***ing triangle instead of letting his hires do the job their way. Except for Kurt Rambis serving as the Smithers to Phil's C. Montgomery Burns.

I liked Fisher as a coach as I think his years in the NBA would translate well to coaching but him being Phil puppet basically killed him in the NBA for a good while Phil tried to work that zen master shit from the FO and it did not work. If he wanted to run the triangle he should be coaching. Let's also not forget the concerns about Noah injury and he said something like he picked me up with his arm so I know he was okay The current regime has fixed his mess in only 2 seasons when Knicks did not have cap or talent so can only wait and see how they forge their path. They know this offseason was supposed to be big for the Knicks with Zion not happening, and now KD/Kyrie also not happening. RJ, Knox, Robinson, Randle, Smith is basically their preaching point of being patient. They are young and will grow is what they have to hope

That shit was not salvageableΒ Phil got carte blanche because nobody knows what they hell they're doing in NY. Like Riley is THE guy in Miami, but he works in conjunction with others and Spo. In LA, Magic was mad because there were in his opinion too many cooks in the kitchen. Phil had no oversight. When that happens, and mistakes are made IT IS EVERY BIT AS MUCH ON THE FRANCHISE WHO PROVIDED A SITUATION WITH NO OVERSIGHT AS IT IS ON THE GUY WHO OPERATED POORLY WITH NO OVERSIGHT. And I never go all caps. But jesus man, you acting like the Knicks are just innocent bystanders to the Knicks' own f***ing situation is beyond my comprehension. This isn't a case of the Knicms being victim of a player's whim, they allowed the relationship to deteriorate.

I never said the Knicks were innocent of anything, i've explained the situation over and over Don't put word in my mouth. This franchise has been in the shit forever. Dolan interfered with everything to the point when they hired Phil he promised he wouldn't question him and let him do his own thing. That came back to bite them in the ass point blank. I gave my opinion of not being mad at a team who didn't want to commit to him. It's really that simple. I, myself would have given KD the deal 100 times over but they didn't so it is over and you move on Your Knicks bias is coming thru. You been bagging on about this and the media for a good while about them always being connected to superstars that don't come. It is disappointing that KD felt like the first real superstar who would come but he didn't so it is what it is. The current front office has earned the trust of the fanbase and while shit didn't work out the way people wanted, I see no point in abandoning ship when shit has been much worse years before

KD's cab drives off into the distance, a thunderstorm rolls in, and I'm left crying over the end of the Warriors dynasty.

Wouldn't be surprised after licking their wounds next season they pull it together and are amng the favorites a year from now.

Knicks sign Taj Gibson
2 years and $20 million
That's a head scratcher when they just got Randle but you need a F off the bench and he's a good energy guy plus he can teach Mitch. Trade piece for later
Knicks are basically going to go with nothing but 2 year deals

I hate the media and in particular the NY media. I don't hate the Suns either. The problem is that you can count on them to make the wrong decision. So it is no surprise when it happens, and yes they deserve to be dragged when it does. When Boogie Cousins left the Kings, their fans didn't blame him that much (here or reddit or anywhere really), they blamed the organization and George Karl. Butler to Miami. That's a great fit.

They got years of trying to get shit right before they have the benefit of doubt from the league. Them getting outshined by the Nets should be damning to them because of their own f***ery and being a laughing stock Butler to Miami is the best fit of the day
