He just confirmed via his Twitter.
Big fan of the dude; and thought the first Venom SUCKED. So here's hoping he rights the ship.

Well if nothing else, the character special effects scenes will be well done; nobody knows better than Serkis how to get subtle and effective acting pulled off when utilizing motion capture or green screen.

It's a natural fit. I'm sure he'll do a great job.

maybe put a few more dollars in wig budget for Cletus...
since the first one had probably the worst wig I've ever seen in a major motion picture.
that said... the biggest problem I think they are going to have is making the action scenes different since they literally did Symbiote vs. Symbiote in the first movie...
also maybe pronounce symbiote correctly...

I loved Venom 1 and thought Tom Hardy was hilarious in it, so I’m delighted this is going ahead.
I wanna see a Venom/SpiderMan movie after this. With Hardy and Holland in their roles.

Awesome news. Let’s see what he can do with the symbiote.

I found the first one fun, just real rough around the edges. I hope Andy can smooth that out, given he obviously knows his stuff on motion capture and the like.

So it won't just be good, it'll be Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle good.
Yeeeeeah, while the effects will probably be great it's not like Serkis has built a great reputation for himself as a director. Though to be fair he hasn't done much.

Though to be fair he hasn't done much. This will be his third directorial effort, so it's probably a little unfair to prejudge him. Mowgli's worst crime is to simply be adequate. Breathe, the first movie he directed, is actually pretty good. The first Venom movie was garbage, so he has to do a better job than that, at least.

Serkis & Tom Hardy? Sign me the f*** up.
And I say that in respects to Serkis embodying a character and probably aiding Hardy who already excels at that. Exciting, to say the least.
Venom was what it was, I liked it as a trashy good time. And Hardy acted his ass off. So I went from being happy for a sequel to stoked, though I don’t know about Serkis as a director. I didn’t watch Mowgli.

I didn’t watch Mowgli. Mowgli suffered from not really being able to decide what its audience is. Bit like the first Venom, I suppose. Still, with Christian Bale, Bendict Cumberbatch, Cate Blanchett, Naomie Harris, and Serkis himself, the cast is top notch, and it looks fantastic.

Agreed. I thought Woody looked like Ronald McDonald without the clown make up.

I thought the first one sucked, but I admit that I want to see Woody Harrelson as Carnage.

Just...just do what everyone wants. Get either Tom Holland or Andrew Garfield (or, wtf, Tobey Maguire) in there and do the Maximum Carnage movie. Sony owns most of the key players in that storyline and their relationship with Marvel means they could probably borrow a few more.
Get f'n Green Jelly to contribute a song.
The first Venom was pure, goofy fun, and for reasons I still don't quite understand, it worked. So just go with it. Go ALL in with it. And stick a freakin' super awkward Todd McFarlane cameo in there. Have him freakin' drawing a Spawn cover or something. Throw Christian Bale in there somewhere and play off the "ha, ha a former Batman is in a Marvel movie" thing that they started with having Keaton in Homecoming.
Just have fun with it.

The deal with Marvel prevents Sony from using any version of Spider-Man in live action outside of the MCU, hence why the Sony Marvel Universe has gained the nickname "Spider-Verse Without Spider-Man".

All well and good, but I'd prefer him to focus on getting the motion capture version of The Grinning Man finished before moving onto other big projects.
