Might as well just make an official Tool thread for this album now that we have the first single and info on it. I'll try and keep it updated. Tool's long-awaited 5th album comes out August 30th, 2019. Here's what Amazon has for the pre-order listing:
Fear Inoculum is the long awaited new album from TOOL, and the band's first new album in 13 years. The album will be available digitally, and in a special Limited Edition physical package that includes a CD in a tri-fold Soft Pack Video Brochure featuring a 4" HD rechargeable screen with exclusive video footage, a USB charging cable, a 2 watt speaker and a 36 page insert book and MP3 download card.
Single to be released in 5 minutes. Will update the thread when it does! It's out! UPDATE 8/23: www.dropbox.com/s/2tmmkrfj3xov5wq/TOOL%20Fear%20Inoculum%20Unboxing%20%20Deluxe%20CD%20Opening.mp4?dl=0(UNBOXING of the video-screen CD) We're one week out, and this unboxing video just got posted! This is the ONLY physical edition at the moment, so it's either this or digital downloads/streaming. UPDATE 8/25 album leaked 5 minutes ago. Don't post any links here or anything, but I can confirm it's legit.

I think Tool is an amazingly talented band. And I enjoy their early albums. However, I just can't get into this song at all.
That being said, I'm happy for die-hard fans of the band for finally getting some new music.

The time of short and sweet rockers from Tool is long gone, however they've kept their sound and seem more comfortable in a space where they can let the music breathe.
This song doesn't hit me as much as "Vicarious" did on 10,000 days but, to be honest.... I haven't been craving another "Sober" I've been craving the longer, more elaborate songs in their discog so I'm definitely happy with what I'm hearing on "Fear Inoculum"

Excellent.
I heard that preorders come with copies of "Winds of Winter" and Half-Life 3.

It’s definitely Tool. They really don’t develop musically. But I liked it. Some of my favourite songs from the last few albums have been the mellower ones like Right in Two and Reflection

It's a good song. I do really like it... but it's not an amazing one.

It sounds a lot like an odd mix of their stuff from the 90s and, like, Jambi. Kind of haunting and intense and, hm. Just that Maynard quality for sure. I like it well enough but I feel like last year's APC releases will be more impactful to me personally in the long run.

CDs have begun showing up at warehouses, with a few Amazon employees seeing them/holding them. Leaks are now likely depending on how much people value their jobs/a smaller record store getting it early enough and doing the deed. Won't be posting leaks here for obvious reasons, but it's worth talking about when it happens.
We got our first look at the included video screen today in the first unboxing video of the CD set. It includes a lot of expanded art and the CD itself, along with the download card for the additional segue songs that couldn't fit on the physical CD. It has that Alex Grey torch eye art that we saw in the announcement date of the new album several months back, which is interesting. I posted it at the top.

Is the only retail version of this album the $50-$70 special edition?
Is there not a normal $10-$15 version in a standard jewel case?
I don’t care about a 2” 4K screen, a 36 page booklet and a few filler songs

Is the only retail version of this album the $50-$70 special edition? Is there not a normal $10-$15 version in a standard jewel case? I don’t care about a 2” 4K screen, a 36 page booklet and a few filler songs There is no 'standard edition' as of right now. I think they may do a vinyl down the road according to a few record shops, but as of right now, the special edition is the only edition. --------- I gotta say, it's made extremely well. It has good quality paper and all kinds of embossings and cool paper effects in the booklet. The booklet it comes with is high quality, and the 4 inch HD screen looks good. I wish they would've had an actual music video on it, but it's a neat edition regardless. Definitely unlike anything else I've ever seen...what a weird concept, I have to charge my CD?! Haha. As for the album, so far "Pneuma" and "Descending" are the big stand-out songs to me. I've only listened to "7empest" once as I saved it for today ahead of the leak, so verdict's out on that until I hear it more, but wow! I'm really liking the album. The dueling guitar solo in "Descending" is magical, and I like "Invincible" a lot more here than on the live bootlegs that have been going around since May. It goes without saying, but Danny Carey is a damn machine on the drums. Alex Grey's "The Torch" is really beautiful art that hearkens back to the Lateralus era. Not sure why they went with such a bland album cover with all the cool art. I've missed just sinking into an album like this and flipping through the pages. Definitely something I plan to spend a lot of time with over the next month.
