I feel like this is going to be yet another sequel that comes and drops with a thud. I feel like Reloaded pretty much killed the interest in the franchise given Revolutions flopped and there really hasn't been some great demand for more of it in the years since despite constant rumors of it. I don't care about these movies at all, but none of them flopped by any stretch. Reloaded was the highest performing at the box office, and Revolutions did almost as much as the original. Even Revolutions brought in almost 3 times it's budget. The quality of the flicks is up to the consumer, but all of them performed well at the box office. Well, I only said Revolutions flopped, and I'd certainly consider it such given it made barely over half of what Reloaded did. Basically same reason Star Trek Beyond is considered a flop.

I wonder if Monica Bellucci will reprise her role. Gorgeous. Loved her in Brotherhood of the Wolf. Anyway, I loved the Matrix Universe. I'm pretty excited about a sequel.

Seeing that Jonathan Groff is listed on IMDB I would think he is absolutely the Agent Smith (or whichever agent) role. I still don't understand how Neo and Trinity can even come back for this film, yet someone who was very much alive at the end of Revolutions (Morpheus) doesn't seem to be coming back. I recall someone saying he died in some post Revolutions story, but is that even really canon?

When the Matrix came out I heard every one raving about it.So went to see it. What I saw was just a rehashing of stuff William Gibson came up with decades ago. Along with FX work that had been happening in Hong Kong cinema for a long time. Add in how Keanu still can't act. I have never understood why that first film became such a huge thing.

Right place, right time 2. Your average movie goer wasn’t really frequenting Hong Kong cinema, and closest they’d seen to the bullet time effects was if they happened to see the Korn “Freak on a Leash” video 3. Keanu isn’t the best actor, but he’s got an undeniable screen presence and charisma. People just really, really like that dude

Morpheus was assassinated in The Matrix Online, which was written by the Wachowskis (or under their supervision whenever it wasn't), so as far as they're concerned it's canon (as was the groundwork for the return of Neo and Trinity). It definitely looks like this is incorporating some of the Matrix Online story.

Can’t help ya on that one, I’ve not exactly well versed with Hong Kong cinema so I don’t have much grounds for comparison. Possibly just the excitement of a main stream American made movie utilising that style? And I haven’t seen The Matrix in at least a decade, so I can’t even tell you if I think it holds up compared to when I first saw it back in ‘99.

Keanu being in it was kinda serendipitous to me. Wachowskis script and the portrayal of the movie felt very cold, stoic. I’m guessing done intentionally? Either way, Keanu’s style fell right into that like a perfect fit. I’m convinced in another timeline “The Matrix” w/ Will Smith is looked on back about as favorably as Wild, Wild West.

For me, The Matrix didn't become interesting until after the first movie. Like you said, the basic storyline of the first movie has been done a million times in science fiction through the years. Hell the questioning reality is almost every Phillip K Dick story ever.

What is odd is when Matrix came out I had piles of friends that are huge science fiction fans. And most of them didn't even realize how much of Matrix was rehashed from older sci fi novels until I pointed it out. Hell a few of them thought I had lost my mind cause I didn't like the Matrix.

Which is why I find it laughable that the author Sophia Stewart tried to sue on grounds that The Matrix ripped off her book from 81. The Wachowskis were copying stuff from way before her book was even an idea.

I'm not sure what I think of bringing back Neo and Trinity here. Given Reeves's resurgent career it makes sense I guess but it does kinda cheapen his sacrifice at the end of Revolutions. I do think it is time for another Matrix movie though. With Revolutions people went in expecting a huge WW2 style blow off and all we got was a Korean War ceasefire. It's easy enough to have the machines, Architect, or whoever renege on that deal and start attacking again. I do think the problem the sequels had is that the Zion stuff just never connected right with anything in the Matrix itself.

I guess its like how movies like 'The Ring' and 'The Grudge' were popular. Yes the style and what not may have been popular already in Japan but majority people here in U.S. hadn't seen it. I guess same goes for those HK movies, never seen them so 'Matrix' was still new and cool to me
