Saw it last night. Wow.
It’s very unapologetically for matrix fans. It also doesn’t really start until an hour in. I won’t spoil it but the new nightmare comparisons are very accurate.
The new Smith is a home run.

Films like this are exactly how 'woke' ought to be done. An amazingly crafted and tempered movie with the right beats of action set pieces, meta and social commentary, reserved humour, nostalgia used to push a fresh story forward. Some characters that I thought would matter more surprisingly didn't, and Neil Patrick Harris continues to be an industry treasure. Go see this if you can, it redeems the last two films and compliments them.

Just finished it. It’s alright. Thankfully they didn’t neuter Neo. It is a little too meta and takes a while to get to the heart of the story. I like it was mostly true to the theme of the movies. The ending was a bit of a miss for me. Overall it’sa average movie. Not horrible not great

I just got back from the movies, and I had fun watching this. It felt like this one dropped the pretentious tone a little and went more regular action. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}the first half almost had a Gremlins 2 vibe with how meta it went. It was enjoyable in that aspect.
The one thing I think should be explored more is humans and machines interacting with each other as individuals. I like the idea that the machines aren't a hive mind, and that you see them working together.

I enjoyed it. Then again I have no real attachment to the originals. I thought Bug (Jessica Henwick) stole the entire movie and would rather have just seen a new adventure with her. Not as good as the first but was better than the last two.
It’s crazy to see how many people on r/matrix hated it.

It was okay. I found the meta stuff incredibly overdone and ultimately the movie left me feeling like it was a glorified clip show and tribute act rolled into one with no real reason to exist.
Jessica Henwick was awesome, though. Give her more work, Hollywood.

This movie was fun gonna need a whole bunch of repeats to really settle into how I really feel about it but something I realized hours later and not gonna say anymore except this movie past its surface especially those last 7 or so min is a very pretty direct message about the current political landscape.
And something else I learned recently about the original movie...the red pill was actually intended to push people to take estrogen pills or more specifically a red estrogen pill that the name escapes me at the moment.
But yea this movie is very meta if nothing else.

The cover of RATM’s “Wake Up” at the end was TERRIBLE.

I enjoyed it, and honestly I really didn't have any complaints. Like others have said, Jessica Henwick was great and Keanu is a treasure. It's weird because it seems like some of the anti-woke youtubers were getting ready to hate this due to spoilers about the ending, but I really didn't see a problem with it. Maybe there's some subtext I'm missing, but it certainly is a better film than the previous Matrix sequels.

When I first watched the film and was like an hour in,... {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}In the back of my mind I was wondering if the whole movie would have turned out to just to be a video game made by Tom Anderson. And just left it at that. Like St. Elsewhere up in this thing.
I'm glad that didn't turn out to be the case, but just imagine that scenario. lol

I rather enjoyed it, but at the same time feel this will "come and go" in a sense. I think the sequel is really when they'll push the pedal to the floor with: {Spoiler} - Deja Vu being forced to reboot the old matrix, potentially leading to "super powers" for the freed minds
- I'm not a super lore guy, can someone explain why OG Morpheus lived til death, while proto Morpheus takes his spot??
- I don't think Smith is done by any means. Guaranteed he wants his Hugo body back, and the box office success of this may just tempt Me. weaving
- Other human settlements would be nice going forward, really keep the anti-Neo f***ing up the peace sentiment going

{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}As I understand it, Morpheus died, 60 years passed, and Neo created a computer Morpheus to take OG's place. The reason Keanu and Trinity still look fairly like themselves is because the machines tinkered with them.

I liked a lot about it.
New actors for Agent Smith and Morpheus were good.
Solid action scenes, however I did think it was weird there was not more kung fu. Keanu can clearly still go in the John Wick movies, so I didn't like that this one relied so much on his Jedi powers.
I think the meta angle was an interesting idea, although I do think the first half hour or so of the movie was basically the Wachowskis telling the audience "LOOK AT HOW CLEVER WE ARE" and/or the studio trying to deflect criticism of the film being a cash grab. Condensing all that to maybe 10 minutes would have been plenty.
Probably a soft 7 out of 10.
ETA: I also thought the bots were a good solution to an issue in the original movie, to whit that Neo and Trinity were killing hundreds of innocent people who had no idea what they had signed up for.

I liked it. The first act really transported me back to how I felt watching the original back in 1999.
Kind of felt like an entire trilogy of movies condensed into a single film.

Matrix has become like Jaws: one all time CLASSIC movie with 3 unnecessary sequels. None of em are as bad as the shark's are, but they're all pretty eh.
This one wasn't bad really, it was just mostly fine.
NPH going full Barney Stinson during the heel turn was hilarious though and I'm unsure if that was intended or not

It made half of what the studio expected (which was a very modest $40 million to begin with) and got pretty “meh” audience scores, so I wouldn’t hold my breath for a sequel.
