What do you think the worst main event in wrestling PPV history is? It's hard to argue against Jake Roberts and Yokozuna vs. Jim Neidhardt and King Kong Bundy from Heroes of Wrestling. Roberts was in no shape to be anywhere near a ring that night and Yokozuna was way past the point of mobility to be able to cover up for Roberts. Jeff Hardy vs. Sting from Victory Road is another contender as well but at least the ended quickly and didn't uncomfortably drag on the way the Heroes of Wrestling match did.

Hulk Hogan v Brutus Beefcake (or The Butcher) at wCw's biggest event of the year StarrCade deserves a mention as it's a terrible match too

off the top of my head here are nominees that haven't been mentioned yet:
Undertaker vs The Underfaker at Summer Slam 1994, Sid vs Hogan at Wrestlemania 8, Yokozuna vs Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 9, Bam Bam Bigelow vs Lawrence Taylor at WrestleMania 11, Sid vs Taker at WrestleMania 13, Orton vs HHH at WrestleMania 25, Roman Reigns vs HHH at WrestleMania 32

With hindsight, Luger/Yokozuna with the way the match finished and the reaction of Luger afterwards is proper cringe.

Hardy & Sting, from the point of view that people backstage knew Hardy was under the influence and let him go out to wrestle. It was unprofessional & dangerous.
Even if they'd managed a decent match I'd still say it was the worst main event, just for that reason. It should never have happened.

That one PPV that only had like one match and wasn’t by any of the major companies. Joe Neglia knows what I’m talking about.

Was THAT Sting vs Jeff Hardy match main event? If so, that.

John Cena vs John Laurinaitis was an awful match. I'm pretty sure it was the main event of what ever PPV it was.

That one PPV that only had like one match and wasn’t by any of the major companies. Joe Neglia knows what I’m talking about. CWA's Bodyguards and Bandits. Had three dark matches, the only PPV match was a 12-man "football" tag team match, and the money mark owner of the company won the match.

Hulk Hogan v Brutus Beefcake (or The Butcher) at wCw's biggest event of the year StarrCade deserves a mention as it's a terrible match too Came in here to say this. Absolutely miserable.
I'm going to nominate Hogan vs. the Giant from Halloween Havoc '95. The buildup - the monster truck sumo "match" after which the Giant fell off the roof of the arena only to reemerge shortly afterwards completely unscathed - was astoundingly stupid, the match was terrible, and the finish with the title changing hands in a confusing DQ finish thanks to a stipulation that hadn't been announced until after the match, and the Yeti humping Hogan into submission was just plain bizarre and reeked of Hogan refusing to do a clean job and Sullivan (I assume) having to concoct this absolute nonsense to get over that hurdle.

Criteria question: Is the last match of the show automatically the “main event?” Or is the most hyped/important match the main event?
For example, the Great American Bash ‘91’s main event was clearly Luger/Windham. But for some reason, the show ended with Steiner/Hyatt vs Anderson/Dangerously

Sting vs Jake Roberts in the spin the wheel make the deal Coal Miner’s Glove match from Halloween Havoc 92 was the first thing that came to mind so I’m going to go with that.

I mean it wasn't booked to be the "worst" main event but I think we'll all agree that nothing will ever turn out as bad as Jeff Hardy verses Sting at Victory Road '11 did.

I'm reminded of the contractual obligation WCW had with Kiss whereby the Demon had to be in X number of "main events", so they just billed his midcard matches as main events to fulfill the contract. In which case, could we nominate the Demon vs. the Wall from SuperBrawl 2000?
