I've recently been getting into bands on Youtube like The Hu (from Mongolia) and Bloodywood (from India) who are infusing local folk styles into metal. For those out there who are into this stuff, any more recommendations of this nature?

It's more of a challenge to name folk metal bands who ARE American lol.
I'm assuming you want the serious stuff and not the embarrassing goofy shit like Finntroll.
Drudkh (Ukraine) Negura Bunget (Romania) Melechesh (Assyrian/Armenia) Orphaned Land (Israel)

Huh.. That's like folk Nu-Metal. A first for me. I second a lot of what's been suggested but nothing is really similar to what you posted. Neither are these two, but it's good stuff that fits the criteria.
Asmegin - Hin Vordende Sod & Sø is fun.
Askival - Eternity is epic.
Ulver's a must since they're such an important band in the genre, though I'm not a big fan myself.

If you want to look at an older band, try Skyclad.

Drudkh (Ukraine) Negura Bunget (Romania) Melechesh (Assyrian/Armenia) Orphaned Land (Israel) I seriously can't think of any American folk metal. Does it even exist? I mean, probably it does. But this is one genre you would really have to look for hard.

Those bands are interesting but the nu-vocals ruin it. It's more of a challenge to name folk metal bands who ARE American lol. Panopticon incorporates bluegrass/Americana into their music. One disc on their recent double album is just that style. Good band, by the way.

Not quite metal, although there’s certainly a lot of its influence here

I didn't want a bunch of responses mentioning some band that just happened to throw a bagpipe or something into one song. Mostly, I'm looking for these types of bands and music from non-white areas.

But none of those bands use the bagpipe... Do you have any specific region of the world in mind?

I wasn't saying that about your recommendations, I was saying that about theoretical answers I would have received had I not included the disclaimer. I tried a similar thread many moons ago, and got ****ing AC/DC as a reply because there's a bagpipe in a couple of their songs (not that they're American, but you get the point).

I'm unfortunately not as well versed in South/East Asian metal bands as I am with the European ones. It IS very frustrating to find good folk metal though because a lot of it really is just cheesy power metal and/or black metal with an accordion thrown on top of it.

It's a bit hard for me to contain exactly what I'm looking for because it's not fully defined. I'm not super-interested in the European stuff, BUT there's some good ones mixed in so far on this thread that match what I'm looking for. Not all of them but some. Regarding someone else's post above regarding American folk metal, I know of at least one, just can't remember their name. Incorporated a lot of Appalachian mountain music into their style, complete with washboards and the like.

Can't recommend the album "Kentucky" enough.

(Zeal & Ardor are Swiss, but part of the music they use is from the American South)
