Advice for going to Indy? Don't. Unless you're looking to be in the most boring "city" in the world, just do what you're there to do, and go home. Now kind sir, while I've never been to Indianapolis, I have been to Davenport, Iowa. And there is no way that a city which includes race car crashes as an attraction could be more boring then Davenport, Iowa. I was born in Davenport. That is the only remotely interesting thing to me about that town (and that's even including the fact that one of its suburbs has the American Pickers store). Every time I go there I can only think one thing. BTW, what are you all looking for in a city anyways? I find Indianapolis to be quaint but interesting, especially when any convention or sporting event hits town. Maybe your issue is that it isn't a "party town"?

I mean Nashville it is not in terms of being a happening city (I won't compare to a smaller town like Davenport). I do know what he means though. Indy is just kinda..blah. It's a bigger city than Louisville for instance (about 940,000 for Marion County, IN to 764,000 for Jefferson County, KY) but I would say Louisville has more stuff to do aside from pro sports where Indy obviously has the Colts and Pacers. If you want museums there's the Derby Museum and of course Churchill Downs in general when races are going on, as well as the Louisville Slugger Museum. You can go to 4th Street Live for the nightlife and the newer Whiskey Row that is near the Yum Center. There's the Bourbon Trail stuff to do as well. I will say Louisville has become quite the drunkard city with all this stuff, and it's more of a serious drinker's thing than a party atmosphere. Then there's always going to Bardstown Road in the Highlands or Frankfort Ave. for the weird bohemian/alternative music, restaurants, atmosphere.
Indy is...okay? Usually I would have a Lucas Oil trip in mind when going there, either a Colts game or an NCAA tourney game. I've only been there once when just going to the Children's Museum (which doesn't strike me as being in the greatest area). Just beware of that 9% sales tax though.
