Was he in any movies where he looked like Princess Bride/Robin Hood Men Without Tighs Era Cary Elwes?
He was so charismatic in both of these. Whenever he pops up in movies now it is always fun to see, but this window in his career definitely sticks out.

Well, the late '80s to mid '90s had the highest concentration of big movies he was ever in so he probably comes across like "classic" Elwes there.
PRINCESS BRIDE GLORY DAYS OF THUNDER BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA HOT SHOTS! THE JUNGLE BOOK ROBIN HOOD MEN IN TIGHTS TWISTER
He's also known for that look with the facial hair (PB, RH, G, BSD, TJB) but ever since those movies he's been clean shaven. And as a guy with facial hair (who prefers it) that changes your complexion quite a bit.

It is funny that Elwes' charisma seems to go up immensely whenever he has facial hair, to the point where I almost assume he's phoning it in when I see him clean shaven, even though that's clearly not the case.

I really liked him in Dracula.
That movie is so fascinating, it's a strange combo of A+ acting and garbage acting that somehow works.

possible controversial opinion but when Cary Elwes does the Claw in Liar Liar, it's funnier to me then anything Jim Carrey does in the movie

Here I see a list of Cary Elwes films and no mention of The Crush. I mean, I get it. How many people even remember that film?
Less forgivable is forgetting to list The Pentagon Wars.

The Crush is possibly the most anti 2019 movie even made. You would be cancelled via social media if you even attempted to stream it.

They attempted to make a reverse Lolita + Fatal Attraction, which is a terrible combination.

all this talk about stuff like Robin Hood and Liar Lair, but no mention of his tour de force performance as Bobby Wobbly in the cinematic masterpiece The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure? for shame!

Wasn't The Crush the movie that put Alicia Silverstone on the map? At least kinda? I always liked Elwes a lot but I think he was someone who would have been a megastar in a different era. His best role was of course in Princess Bride, but that sort of Errol Flynn/Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. stuff was not exactly in style by that point. By the early 90s he could star in a Mel Brooks spoof of Robin Hood, but someone like Costner was in the actual Robin Hood. But to me Elwes would have been terrific in actual Robin Hood movie.
I've also often found it odd that someone who practically screams out "I'm a hero!" has been a heel so many times in movies and on TV.

Thank God, I thought he died.
I can recommend his book about the filming of The Princess Bride as a good read; some interesting Andre stories in it too.

I have his book As You Wish as well. Rob Reiner seems like the best director to work with after reading it.

possible controversial opinion but when Cary Elwes does the Claw in Liar Liar, it's funnier to me then anything Jim Carrey does in the movie It's a different sort of funny. Jim Carrey in that movie is more laughing at the class clown. Elwes is the clever guy who comes up with a great gag that keeps you laughing for days.
