I refuse to give Mike Scully the satisfaction of having the last word on the franchise.
"Homer's Enemy" was that.

The only way this show stops is when Al Jean croaks Fixed. A common misconception is that this is Matt's thing, even after 3 decades. Matt Groening pretty much stopped caring and became hands off around 2000 when Futurama was in production. In fact, by then, all three names you see at the intro (Matt, James L. Brooks, & Sam Simon) were practically out of the picture, though Matt & James show up from time to time for PR. Al Jean has ran this show for going on 19 years now. Matt was always basically the face of the show for the public, more so than any thing else.

Like I said, Matt only shows up for public relations these days. People assume he still is in charge of the day-to-day operations, but in reality, that's been Al Jean's thing, and in my opinion, has been one of the reasons why the show has remained stagnant given how the show had changed showrunners every two seasons until Mike Scully in Season 9, when he was showrunner for 4 seasons until Season 13, where Jean has been in charge to this day.

I suggested on this board about a decade ago that the makers of The Simpson’s in way to evolve the show is to age all the characters 5 years. So Bart and his classmates will be in high school, Lisa and her classmates will be in junior high, they can do more with Maggie since she will be 7. I know they want the show to be timeless, but three decades with no character evolution, constant retcons to back stories because of that has really made the show suffer. Plus the deaths of regular voice actors recently (Marcia Wallace, Russi Taylor). it’s time to just end it. However, doing so would require effort, and as I've said with many a comment regarding how WWE writes things; effort is hard, and as Homer once famously said, "if something is hard, then it's not worth doing". The worst part, I feel, is that this is a rare show that would have benefitted from exploring the world instead of the main cast. In most shows, whenever an episode about an ensemble cast member is done, people typically complain about it, but in a show like The Simpsons, after endless episodes of shows that deviate back to the family or focus on how great a family member is at the cost of a supporting cast member, it would be revolutionary to have the family be shunted exclusively to the background entirely. Besides, people like to complain about the "Marge and Homer have a fight" episodes being abundant, but the recent seasons have shown they'll recycle the same plotlines in a short period of time. The last episode of season 29 and the first episode of season 30 both feature Bart in a coma; two episodes in seasons 28 and 29 involve the Simpsons going to another country to take advantage of cheaper health care for Grampa, and the 30th season featured two episodes where Marge got furious at Lisa for seeking a better life instead of settling for malaise like she had to.
