No foolin', I think I actually have my Blockbuster Video brand cleaning tape still. Kept mainly for the nostalgia because I've not played a VHS (in my VHS/DVD player - don't hate me, 'cause apparently those are rare as hell nowadays) for years.

Did these actually do anything? Not really- they pretty much just re-aranged the dirt. You were/are better off actually cleaning the machine and tape heads yourself or getting it done by someone who knows how to do it.

Did the SNES cleaner do anything? It helped but you could also just clean the contacts with a mixture of rubbing alcohol and water with a Q-Tip and do just as good of a job. You didn't really need to buy the Nintendo-branded cleaning kits. Keeping the cartridge contacts clean and in a dust-free area helped.

Did the SNES cleaner do anything? Not half as much as just blowing into those f***ers did.

I have a VHS/DVD combi that has a HDMI port, absolutely baffles people. We had one of those for a bit. Replaced the MONO vhs vcr/dvd player combo unit. I was shocked that in 2005 there was still MONO units made. Few years ago found a VHS rewinder unit and a sealed VHS head cleaner tape. Was already buying a bunch of VHS and DVDs from the guy so he threw in the rewinder and the head cleaner tape for free. Head cleaner tape is still sealed.
