I like that they're going this route with him, since it A. does quash fears some had that Elite would push themselves above all others, and B. it is putting a kind of urgency in the character that he frankly lacked since winning the NJPW title. He got on top, and I'm not going to say he coasted, because he obviously still worked hard, including working hurt, but his character got everything that he wanted, and you have the problem Becky Lynch has had, where you have to wonder what's next.
Now, I see a clearer path for him going forward than he's had in a while. I think Moxley puts him away, but Omega also goes back to basics. Not saying he necessarily goes crazy heel or anything, but I do think he'll show more of a mean streak, which hopefully doesn't mean doing like 40 more V-Triggers than he already does.

Basically everyone is bulletproof until the show starts. He's fine. Yea, pretty much I agree with this and mostly what everyone saying He can afford it and has that reputation in his back pocket but in terms of him losing big matches as the thread says and not just matches in general, it won't really start mattering untilTV starts and then you have storylines around it most likely

I think he's jobbing to Moxley and then that will send him spiraling into a heel turn and he'll lay waste to everyone going into 2020. He can afford one more notable loss but that's the absolute last one.

Pretending people are dead is just AEW policy all The Elite guys pretend Adam Cole is dead they even make Britt Baker do it. Well yeah, the Young Bucks murdered Adam Cole for poisoning them.

Honestly, losing is the best thing they can do with Omega right now, even above putting the belt on him. He was on top of the world, but in another company; as much as everyone knows it, they have to rebuild him, and there's money in running a chase with as big a star. But you can't do a chase and you can't do that sort of build with someone who toppled the world. Draw it out, let him find his character again and hit his stride. Kenny needs a story that's born within AEW, and once he has that he is top guy headliner material for years, but he needs things to fall into place first.

Not only can he afford it, he needs it for his character to fully evolve.
Cody is getting the push that on paper Omega would have gotten, but with Kenny it works more b/c he cemented himself as a top guy in New Japan. This fall from grace is even more palatable because he has such high heights to fall from, and people know how good he is, so him losing again and then just going batshit crazy is even more exciting b/c we know what he can do when he's firing on all cylinders.
Of all the Elite guys, his story is the most interesting and has the best long game to it. Cody is coming off as the new Jarrett, The Bucks are in full humblebrag mode, and will probably win the titles unless they're screwed out of them by their next feud, and Hangman is on that slow burn to a possible heel turn (still say they're saving it for when Marty shows up).
Omega has to lose to Moxley, it only makes sense. Him winning is actually the worse idea in terms of storytelling.

I think it helps to go with Cody right now because he's got maybe the most wide appeal of the Elite guys, in terms of being that bridge between old school and new, and has been allowed to show some vulnerability early with Dustin and the chair shot. With Jarrett, though, good lord. Raven, Rhino, Monty, etc, anyone with some heat behind them would either put him over or be cast as his lackey or hapless rival.

Even if there's absolute effort put into it, Cody has looked more like a top guy--not the guy but someone a healthy company would use as a main event name--than he ever did with ROH or in the time he spent feuding for the IWGP title. I don't know how long they can run with all the send-ups to his father and the huge emotional matches, but for now it's doing just fine for him. Jarrett spent years killing the territory, Cody's got a long way to go and there's too many other partners and names involved for it to possibly go that bad.

I see The Elite losing on the TNT debut to Jericho and, presumably, Santana and Ortiz. I don’t think they’ll have their World Champ and a hot debuting tag team lose on their first show. That would put Omega at 2-3 in AEW. Not a terrible record, but the impending Moxley loss would drop it to 2-4.

It is kind of strange. He's one of the people they should be building AEW around for TV along with Moxley. Having them face each other seems like the wrong move at this stage.

I like it Creates that big fight feel ala UFC where two people who are on fire or can't afford losses face against each other and in the end someone gets a boost up while the other person has to retool a bit

I would have scheduled it pretty early into the TV run. The biggest problem I think they face going into TV is that general audience won't know many stars. The few that are big enough names to cred outside of those with indy/japan knowledge are Moxley, Jericho and the Elite it seems. So I would have expected early on for them to make a pairing like this as one of the big matches right after coming to TV for people to latch on to while they build up everyone else you know?

I get you. I think what they are doing is not really holding their core audience hand so not really explaining people and letting them get over just by being out there. Of course once TV starts I expect some alignments and storyline beats to help propel guys to the next level. A guy like MJF who has already been getting rave reviews should have his plate busy. He should be in a good middle tier feud with Adam Page while also latching on to Cody and building up that relationship for the eventual turn

I think he's just fine and if anything in the long run it'll be actively beneficial to him, though I've seen a lot of people in certain circles of the Internet going on and on about how Omega losing a couple of matches shows AEW is completely ruining him and that it's proof they have no idea what they're doing.

Yeah I think he can afford a loss. Moxley needs this W more than he does. Besides that, it's pretty easy to build an "Omega Redemption Arc" compared to Moxley. I mean the past 5 months post-WWE has been Moxley's redemption arc, he's making a name for himself. Omega on the other hand, what you do is have Moxley beat him and then you've got a guy like Omega who can work with these new AEW heels. He can work with the Shawn Spears types, he can work with the guys that need to be elevated and win because just being in the ring with Omega helps them out.
So yeah, he can afford a loss. Him losing will help the company out more than him winning.

The guy is pretty bulletproof. His drunk at a wedding promo on the new BTE & the Dickson one he cut on Moxley fit with him losing matches. I honestly don’t want Cody/Omega/Bucks holding belts for any long periods of time as they don’t need them to be over in AEW and using vets like Jericho to get their titles over is a good idea.
I get the idea that Omega & crew would like to distance themselves from their Bullet Club personas as quickly as possible. I wish Cody had put Spears over too.

Of course he can. Losing streaks are a common thing in wrestling.

Kenny turns heel, changes his name to Omega Kenny, and adopts the gimmick of being AEW's final boss.

The biggest shock about AEW so far is how they have gone out of their way to book Kenny Omega as the opposite of a star and a major deal. A year ago this guy was the hottest commodity in all of wrestling.

I think Omega would find his "mean streak" precisely by actually winning his match against Moxley. They're the two biggest stars on the whole roster: former world champions and the uncrowned kings of independents and Japan. Before signing to AEW, they both were the biggest free agents this century has ever seen. If Omega can afford losing, surely Moxley can. I just see it as more interesting choice, Moxley will be a killer after finding his nemesis. It's the hottest match that can happen anywhere in world right now, like todays Austin vs. The Rock.
