I hope he does something with Superman. Mediocre J.J. Abrams quality would still be the best thing the character has gotten since Richard Donner.

The article mentioned Katie McGrath and I was like "JJ Abrams is married to Lena Luthor?!" until I realized it was a completely different person.

(spookily enough, Snyder DID use some ideas from the Abrams script. Turning Supes supporting cast into CIA agents? Check. 9/11-like damage? Double check. I think I'd rather have Luthor be a Kryptonian than a Riddler-lite, though)

But on the other hand, at least Snyder kept the basic (though hackneyed) origin the same. Abrams' version would have Krypton NOT blow up. Oh what the heck, just found the whole article. Yeah, Peters was in charge of bringing Superman back to the big screen from 1992 until the release of Superman Returns in 2006. He also had a producing credit on Man of Steel despite never being involved (Christopher Nolan even banned him from the set) due to a clause in his Warner Bros. contract entitling him to 5% of the box office of any solo Superman movie.

Guess Warner Bros. decided they could use more lens flares.

Given his ability to make very Spielberg like movies when he wants to, I feel like if J.J. tapped into that feeling of wonder and awe he did for Super 8 for a Superman movie you could have something at least good (so better than pretty much anything since Richard Donner that's not the 90's animated series).

Abrams is a hack. But his slop is still serviceable compared to the bulk of the drek coming out of Warner Brothers... so a step up for them, I suppose?

So he's fine with blowing up Vulcan and the entire New Republic, but the planet that's supposed to blow up, he'd keep. Oh JJ you card, you.

Like someone else mentioned earlier in this thread, this was a script meant to try to cater to the insane desires and whims of one Jon Peters, like how Smith had a go of it too. I wouldn't really take this script as "What J.J. would definitely do if he had complete control over his version of Superman" and more "Desperately trying to make sense of a guy that thought Brainiac should wrestle and kill a bear to show what a threat he is, Brainiac and Superman should both have cute and cuddly sidekicks, Brainiac's should be wise cracking too and somewhere in there should be a giant spider that Superman has to fight". We're talking about the nut that took the guy that directed Men in Black and made him spew out Wild, Wild West (which as Smith himself has pointed out, coincidentally, has a giant f***ing spider in it).
