I never knew about this, but apparently this was Tarantino’s original plan. I like Sandler more than a lot of people, but I’m glad it didn’t happen. It would have taken me right out of the movie.
Sandler only didn’t do it because he had scheduling conflicts since he was working on Funny People at the same time.

If he did the role, that movie would have been longer. A whole scene was cut of the Bear in New York going around Jewish community and getting signatures for his bat. He probably would have had a lot more screen time as well.
Another actor that had to drop out was Simon Pegg. He originally landed the Archie Wicox role.. but had to pull out because of “Hot Fuzz” I think. So Michael Fassbender was cast instead..
Good call. Hot Fuzz is one of my favourite movies.

Pretty much anyone would have been better than Eli Roth. His acting is terrible.

Eli Roth got a better introduction in that movie then his acting talent deserved
the same scene but with Adam Sandler, I think would have been amazing

Sandler was incredible in Punch-Drunk Love and there's always been an air of slightly unhinged menace to his act. It would've worked great.

How would they have worked a scene of the Bear Jew being good at basketball into the movie?

How would they have worked a scene of the Bear Jew being good at basketball into the movie? A detached head and a hoop.

How would they have worked a scene of the Bear Jew being good at basketball into the movie? making Hawaii look like Germany would be tough too.

Would've gotten a laugh once Sandler appeared. We're talking about common movie going audiences. But once he drilled the bat into his skull it would've changed. When he's motivated, he can be great.

Sandler playing that part would have made it a better movie.

I unironically think this could've been a career defining role for Sandler and at least for a very short time would've had people talking about him the way people talked about Travolta coming out of Pulp Fiction.
Shame.
I don't think Eli was terrible in the role, but he definitely was propped up by the carry job the movie gives him.

Probably would of been great. And been more memorable, I’d imagine.

It was the best thing Eli Roth has ever done in his career, and Sandler would have been better.

That would have been phenomenal. Pitt: "Donnie, we got a German here who wants to die for country." *knock* *knock* *knock* *knock*
