Language warning.
By far the longest Down the Rabbit Hole yet at 2 hours and 10 minutes. Not fully watched yet, since it only just went up - he posted on Twitter a few hours ago it'd be up around now so searched for it when it was time and it was there.
Been super eager to see more of Fred's stuff so turning this on right now.

Just finished, absolutely brutal sit if only because there's... really no one in it who's likable, though still certainly feel sorry for the guy by the end of it.
Also f*** Keemstar but you knew that already.

Wings in the video comes off as a pretty unpleasant person who creates a lot of his own problems, but even then, f*** the trolls, they were so much worse and clearly making the situation far more dire. That video of him breaking down crying in particular... I have no idea how someone could laugh at that. That was heartbreaking.

Wings story to me is a story of how once the internet decides someone is an acceptable target they go way too far.
It's why I don't engage in mobbing on stuff like this, even with unpleasant people.

Another case where something funny is ruined by vicious uninteresting trolls.

So I'm only about twenty minutes in and already everybody involved sounds like thoroughly horrible people. How much worse does this get in the next hour and fifty minutes?

This got recommended to me by youtube and I have no idea why. Would someone be willing to give a quick synopsis (if that's at all possible), since my interest is piqued from this thread?

Guy was an early call of duty YouTuber and a huge success for the time. Proceeds to slowly become a worse and worse person. He makes bad decisions, trolls latch onto him, repeat over and over. The trolls eventually go way too far and spend their time trying to ruin his life no matter what he does. The Darksyde Phil meets Chris-Chan comment is pretty accurate.

DtRH is a video series where the host, Fred Knudsen talks about strange groups, artists and online weirdness. This one is about a YouTuber who became really bug in the gaming community but things went really off the rails. So, typical DtRH episode. It's way longer than normal though. It's a good one but not the one I'd start with. Give the episodes about Spoony, Digital Homicide and Chris-Chan a start first.

Okay, I can kind of see why YouTube thought to recommend this to me now, as I sub to multiple gaming channels and have watched videos on Channel Awesome in the past. I'm in this weird limbo of knowing some stuff and then knowing nothing about other stuff, so the comparison comment means nothing to me, but I can see all this being something I fall down the rabbit hole with (pun intended).

You wrote back as I was replying to the first person, so thank you kindly as well! I'll take your suggestion to heart, especially since I know about Digital Homicide (I'm assuming I know everything) from Jim Sterling. Also, I bet my subbing to Whang is part of what got this recommended to me too. I watch basically all his videos, especially Tales From The Internet, and this sounds somewhat similar.

Yeah, there’s a number of people who do that kind of content. I’m a pretty big fan of the internet oddities, so I was hype for it. Beyond that, video was trending pretty high in gaming so that’ll boost its recommends for anyone.

I realize it's Youtube comments and I shouldn't expect better, but it does kind of gross me out that a lot of the comments are just repeating the stupid memes. Like yeah, the guy caused a lot of his own problems, but the assholes around the Internet making him a laughing stock have made them a lot worse.

Yeah, watching these videos, I can never shake the feeling that most of the audience is here to relive some nostalgic sadism.

He seems okay so far. I'm through the Digital Homicide ones and am watching the Chris-Chan one, as per Baldobomb-22-OH-MAN!!!'s suggestion and he hasn't said anything that's come across as cruel or antagonistic. Just reiterating the story. Whang has more humor in his videos, though. And he talks about some random, weird stuff haha. This guy is more crazy stuff people have *done* on the internet as opposed to crazy stuff *on* the internet.

Because I know, as screwed up as I am, had I ever become any sort of content creator, I'd have gotten trolled/bullied right off the rails, myself.

I wouldn't say Fred comes off meanspirited at all, especially since he's usually looking to make a point - I think the only times he's ever really actually spoken out against who he's looking at are Digital Homicide, who basically have it coming, and Norman Boutin, which wasn't even in the actual video and was entirely in the supplemental one.
