Near 70 year old guy that doesn’t keep up with pop culture, let alone the current WWE product, trying to keep pace with two 30-somethings? Yeah I don’t know who forced that upon Heyman but I can only imagine he either went in deaf or was before the show was over. No, I think Heyman had an idea here to have a veteran commentator with Legend status accompany the millennial play by play and color commentators. The idea was that Lawler would let a bit of credibility to the announce team while Dio and Vic got comfortable on the big stage. It's very similar to the dynamic of AEW's announce teams, where JR and Schiavone are there as legendary announcers almost the entire audience knows and respect while Excalibur, Marvez, and Goldenboy grow into their roles and gain their own reputations. It wasn't as seamless as Heyman would have hoped because Lawler is still Lawler in both his good and bad attributes, but they were much better during hours 2 and 3 than they were in hour 1. It was close to that but came from Vince himself according to Lawler and we know how in touch those two are. Heyman wanted Vic and Dio only: www.wrestlinginc.com/news/2019/09/jerry-lawler-reveals-how-paul-heyman-and-vince-mcmahon-came-660110/It was a bad idea and worse in execution. It is only going to make it harder in the long run for those two to get used to TV while dragging around Lawler.

Vic sounded shellshocked, was stumbling over everything and Dio sounded scared to talk. People were saying King was talking too much at the beginning (and he was) but as the vet he had to take it by the scuff of the neck. Luckily Vic and Dio grew into their roles and gained confidence, that's when King stepped into the background more.

I thought he was OK to be honest. The other two guys were decent too and i found them more tolerable than Cole and Graves.

Without reading this thread my first thought watching last night was "The two new guys are fine but sound apprehensive and a touch slow, I'm guessing somebody is telling Lawyer to go over the top to cover for it and take over in the opening minutes of the show"
I doubt this is going to be a lingering issue. New dudes will grow in confidence. They sound like they got skill.

He just felt out of place. I miss heel, non-horny, King. If that was who we were getting, that would be tremendous. I wish we still had a healthy Heenan. I truly believe his shtick would STILL be Gold.

Dio calling him out about talking to someone in the back got a laugh from me I think Dio had the line of the night with "King, she took off the blazer, there's no going back now."

How will we combat AEW?
They got one washed up Attitude Era announcer, let's get the other half of the team on the air!

Maybe next week, KING won't be back!
(j/k, there's a better chance of them canning Vic and Dio than him at this point.)

I would much rather have MJF, Booker T, or Montez Ford take over the spot for Dio Maddin if Dio Maddin doesn't show improvement in the weeks ahead. MJF should have been acquired a long time ago.

I can do without the god damn (grand)dad jokes and high pitched shit.
JR and King were amazing once upon a time. Lawler doesn't seem to have it anymore.
Everything he said was just so corny and cringeworthy.

Anyway, it's a good thing that he's in AEW, because he's learning to be an even bigger asshole from Tully Blanchard. Or is it the other way round?

I didn't watch, but my main problem with current WWE commentary is the three man booth. I have a poor attention span and all these annoying people yapping over the matches gives me a headache.
Two man booths are perfect, or one man if you have someone with that rare talent.
