I really think The Rangers shot themselves in the foot by extending Kreider for that long, although sending Skjei to Carolina for a first rounder is great.

A little disappointed that the Devils didn't get more for Vatanen, but he's been hurt so I can't really be surprised. Still, they got a nice prospect for him, and the overall haul they've gotten from trading Hall, Coleman, Greene, and Vatanen shaped up really nicely with a few really good prospects and a couple extra first rounders. I'll take that, for sure, and I'm honestly glad to see them finally going towards a legitimate youth movement. I was even excited at the idea of trading Palmieri if it meant they were going to net a return like the one they got for Coleman, but Fitzgerald came out today and said he only wanted a return for Palms that'd bowl him over and he didn't get it, in which case I'm fine holding on to him and either trading him later or seeing if he's down for a reasonably team friendly extension.
And yeah, Rangers getting a first for Skjei was a great move for them, but there's definitely an argument to be made that by extending Kreider like they did they simultaneously officially reopened their contention window, but also started the clock on it closing again. A lot's going to come down to if they do a good job developing the young talent they've got already, because they may be in cap trouble sooner than expected. Still, again, that extra 1st is a great get for them.
The Isles, meanwhile...man, I knew it from his time here, but Lou is freaking loyal to his guys, isn't he? Might be for the best that the Parise deal didn't go through, though reading the proposed financial particulars of what was being put out there it seemed like it might not have been that bad an idea. Still, Lou's older now and it looks like he wants to go for it again, not exactly keeping much of an eye on the future.

I'm happy with the trades the Sharks made, although I wish we could have traded Thornton to a cup contender. Him and Marleau deserve to at least have one ring somewhere and I'm okay with it being somewhere else if our team isn't going to get the job done

I have no idea if these moves the Caps made will work or not, but the idea of trading a 3rd rounder for a 36 year old doesn't sit well with me.

Eh, the Caps are legitimate Cup contenders and a 3rd rounder is no guarantee of anything, they're justified in being in "go for it" mode and Kovalchuk, much as it kills me to say, will be deadly alongside Ovi on the power play.

Shades of the fire sale of 2003, but on the bright side, we won the division and made the Conference Finals the next year. Interesting to see what we do for a full-time coach after this season is over.

Rangers are 9-1-0 in their last 10 and are climbing up the WC standings.

Scary injury with Johnny Boychuk taking a skate to the face, right in the area of his eye. He didn’t return to the game, and there’s no updates as of yet. Hopefully no long term injuries.

There are some updates, but nothing official. It sounds like he got lucky and just has a cut to the eyelid or eyebrow. Everything from reporters to his brother saying things really positive.

Good to hear the damage sounds superficial. Scary situation. Definitely. Much like the situation with Bouwmeester, this could have ended up being a career-ender and life-changer. Luckily it worked out as well as it could have. I wonder how long it will be until the NHL requires the full cage like college does.

Yup, apparently Boychuk got 90 stitches to the eyelid. What luck. We're talking millimeters or miliseconds away from permanent vision loss in the eye. Terrifying yet amazing. The reaction time on the eye is Hasek-like.

Mika Zibanejad just had the game of his life. I still can't believe Ottawa traded him and a 2nd for Derrick Brassard. And the Rags got him at 23, coming off a decent season, and now he's a legit 1C. Fleecing.

Word is that the NHL will make an announcement regarding the rest of the season later today. Odds are that just like the NBA and MLS, they'll suspend the rest of the season.

There not much left of the regular season left, The fact the playoff normally would start next month. Sucks more so for any team so close to being in or out. I get maybe no fans as much I would hate it as a season ticket package owner. I think a little much to not play out the games.
